SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) -A Santa Fe author says the search is finally over for his controversial hidden treasure. Forrest Fenn confirmed with KRQE News 13, someone has found the treasure he did more than 10 years ago.

Forrest Fenn’s grandson told KRQE News 13 over the phone that his grandfather isn’t going to be saying much today. However, he did say it is true, the treasure is no longer up for grabs.

This all started when Fenn published his memoir called “The Thrill of the Chase.” In the book, he gives clues to a treasure chest he hid in the Rocky Mountains that was supposedly worth around $3 million.

Still don’t know where it was hidden. Hope that fact comes out down the road.

I want to see a full break down of the clues. I want to know how easy or difficult it was to figure it out.

I ain’t buying it. I believe he was legally pressured to make a statement because so many people were hurting themselves and trespassing.

I think that at 89 years old and the possibility of dying any time, nobody is going to pressure him to do anything. People with that mindset will continue to search for the treasure until he reveals the location.

So, what was the actual treasure and if worth millions. why did this author not keep it for himself?
I recall hearing about this maybe five years ago.
Some fellow had lost his life in pursuit of this treasure.
Maybe it was a box full of gold bullion, doubloons and krugerrand. Oh, and an unopened bottle of champagne.

With 500,000 people looking for the treasure over 10 years, I'd say it wouldn't be described as "easy" to find. That leaves you with "difficult".

I think you answered your own question.

There were supposedly 9 vague clues in a poem the Fenn wrote that held the secret to where the chest of gold worth $1 million was hidden.

A real life treasure hunt in the Rocky Mountains somewhere.

Great story.

The author made many millions, and set up this treasure hunt as a thrill for readers. I think it’s a great story.

Yeah, but did he tip off his son in law’s cousin or something, so they could get the money and keep it handy for family use?

Do some research. It only took me 2 minutes to find a picture of the chest and it's contents as Fenn was deciding what should go in it before he hid it. From what I could see, it was mostly gold, watches and gems but he took some things out and added others before he closed the chest up for good to hide it.

He was a successful author and probably didn't need the money and this gave him a real life treasure and mystery to be involved in.

That would make a good two or three part movie some day.
But please, no Harrison Ford! He’s too old, plus rumor is he’s a bad pilot. Maybe that Australian actor who plays Thor.

The story of the guy who found it is going to be more interesting than the original memoir.

I once had a girlfriend who had her own treasure chest. Finding it wasn’t hard. Cashing in was. /sarc
