After backlash, New York Times admits it should not have run Tom Cotton op-ed

"The hawkish, one-sided column published Wednesday outraged many, including staff members, many of whom tweeted in solidarity : "Running this puts black @nytimes staff in danger." In a statement late Thursday, the Times said Cotton's piece did not meet its standards, though it did not explain exactly why it was published."

Isn't rioting kind of "hawkish"? Aren't almost all opinion pieces "one-sided"? Who is putting the black New York Times staff more in danger than the rioters, who have all ready killed ten people, at least two of them black, more than the single death that triggered this whole scenario.

As to why the article was published, it is because it represents a reasonable option to deal with the crisis. The military have been brought in before to quell out-of-control rioting, notably during the Rodney King riots.
