I had the misfortune of listening to Attorney General Barr's news conference. No real mention of Antifa or their funding source, then just prattling about "extremists". Then he lauded the FBI before having FBI Director Wray get up to speak. I had enough at that point. Are Trump and his allies really playing 4D chess, as the Q supporters claim, or are we witnessing GOP dithering? Nixon had Agnew throw red meat at the conservative base, but pursued liberal policies, like wage and price controls, recognizing Red China, establishing the EPA.
Lord forgive me, but I am worried of a big time cave.

That news conference was less than inspiring.
“There are millions of good Americans, conservatives, in the blue states. Think about inland California, northern and western Michigan, western Maryland, downstate Illinois. Even in the hearts of darkness, there are outposts of relative sanity, e.g., Staten Island in NYC. If the states and cities fail to protect their citizens, who will protect them? This is a legitimate Federal role.”
I know. I used to live in a blue state and left. Then the blues caught up to me again. It sucks. But sending in federal armed forces is a huge step. And under the Posse Comitas act, it is not a federal role to quell riots.
True, that act was part of the post-Reconstruction settlement that allowed Rutherford Hayes to be elected President, with Georgia and Florida turning their electoral votes to Hayes in exchange for the ending of Reconstruction.
However, we are dealing with an insurrection, led by Antifa and BLM, funded by George Soros and tax free foundations and perhaps the CCP, and supported by street gangs that gain money from drug dealing. City and state officials and their police forces are standing down, perhaps not as blatant as South Carolina forces attacking Fort Sumter, but nonetheless an insurrection abetted by state and local governments in Minnesota, New York, California, and elsewhere.
Lincoln did not back down from suppressing rebellion in 1861; neither should Trump in 2020.
