Now they have a problem with Brandy Melville clothing for young ladies. Apparently their models are thin and blond and their clothing caters to thin females.

So, they must be boycotted. This is not about oppression. They are just acting like spoiled brats now.

June 2: Special Message from, Superintendent Carla Santorno and School Board President Scott Heinze on behalf of the Tacoma Public Schools Board of Directors

Many of us are grieving and fatigued today as we bear the weight of trauma from ongoing and current conditions brought on by racism, brutality, a relentless system that continues to oppress, and the impacts of COVID-19.

There is much emotional fear and physical fear shared among our colleagues, students, and community as we embark on new learning experiences as situations unfold in the media and on social networks.

We fear for every person of color as they determine harmful versus helpful intervention. We are thankful for those who are pillars of strength within and around our school community in support, and we remain committed to all dimensions of equity—multiculturalism, social justice, and culturally responsiveness. We support the elimination of racism in all its manifestations and hold dear to the thought of wonderful TPS staff members pulling together each day. The best way for us to support each other is to continue to provide the best quality education and service to those we love and care about—our students and their families.

Another way to support is to grow our own professionalism and life-long learning. In addition to required harassment and discrimination training for all staff, this spring we launched three powerful modules designed to provide system-wide professional development on diversity and equity for every TPS employee. The purpose of the training is to provide systemic awareness across our District. Embedded in the modules are clear goals to be accomplished by common clear language and definitions, consistent strategies, frank conversations, and proven practices.

Our experience with the Covid-19 virus has illuminated inequities in our classrooms and in our community. Although we are angry and discouraged about present conditions, we remain resolute that here in Tacoma, we can alter this reality. Our actions can and will make a difference. Let’s work together.

Carla J. Santorno

Superintendent, Tacoma Public Schools

Scott Heinze

President, Tacoma Public Schools Board of Directors, on behalf of full Board of Directors

Remember when “Tea Party” protests were going on and all those riots and looting ensued? Me neither!

Public opinion is turning against Antifa and the rioters. The silent majority is fully awake.
