Organizers of the Republican National Convention said Tuesday they will begin visiting potential alternative sites after North Carolina's governor told them the COVID-19 pandemic requires them to prepare for a scaled-back event if they want to hold it in Charlotte. Gov. Roy Cooper, a Democrat, said in a letter to the top convention organizer and the national GOP chairwoman that 'planning for a scaled-down convention with fewer people, social distancing and face coverings is a necessity.' The letter came on the eve of a deadline from the GOP for assurances that Cooper would allow a full-scale event in August. Later, Cooper told reporters it's unlikely that virus trends will allow a full-capacity nominating convention for President Donald Trump to proceed at Charlotte's NBA arena.

The only town in SC that could a accomodate that sort of throng as far as hotel rooms would be Myrtle Beach, and there’s no venue large enough for the convention itself. Besides, they’re looking for a swing state.

If Trump is serious about black outreach and really believes that there is an opportunity there, I’d say Atlanta. It’s been a mecca for black people returning south for decades. Of course there’s the risk of having the convention marred by those who are still on the Democrat plantation, though.

So is Charlotte and that city wasn’t disqualified. Name a city sufficiently large to have a venue that would work as well as the hotel rooms in a reasonable radius that isn’t Democrat controlled. I can’t really think of one. Maybe Jacksonville FL which has a Republican mayor but nothing else.
Yes, politically probably a better choice. Security will weigh very heavily though. Urban density and tall buildings are a challenge.

The riots might help Trump in NY, but it's a lost cause there. As for states like Virginia, I know former Trump supporters who didn't think he cut off travel to Europe soon enough, by weeks. The libs in the suburbs have not been rioted upon yet, except in a couple cases (e.g. Manassas) and there the LEOs responded and stopped it quickly. Lots of things can change but VIrginia is not in play right now.
Too many outright communists there and so close to Chicago. It’d be a nightmare to the point that I’d be concerned about bombings.
