Cuomo and de Blasio are refusing to face what rioting means for New York

Macy’s? The cops let them loot Macy’s — the Miracle on 34th Street store?

Wow.

Everybody who grew up in this town has at least once ridden the rickety wooden escalator at the center of Macy’s Herald Square — a building almost as iconic to New York City as the Empire State Building. They’ve made movies about them both.

And so a city with 40,000 cops hasn’t the will to station a couple of hundred of them between its cultural heritage — kitschy as it sometimes may seem — and an opportunistic mob?

Shocking and shameful.

The thing with anarchists, with rioters and with looters is that if you give them an inch, they’ll take your city’s soul. And it has been the policy of New York City for several nights now to give them as many inches as they demand.

But when Gotham’s top uniformed cop kneels in solidarity with nihilism — as Chief of Department Terence Monahan did Monday — the nihilists didn’t go home and stream Netflix.

They went out and took another bite from the Big Apple.

And not just at Macy’s. And not just in Midtown. The Bronx was burning Monday night, and suddenly it was 1977 all over again. It’s been going on for days, everywhere — and the pressing question Tuesday afternoon was: What will Wednesday bring?

To be sure, anarchist provocation and garden-variety greed seem to have paralyzed the national will as well. Yet New York is supposed to be better than that; so far, it has been anything but.

Hand the blame to Bill de Blasio and Andrew Cuomo. They’re content to declare curfews and cluck on about social justice and peaceful protest. But that’s it. And that’s not enough.

Some of the looting seems to have been well-organized, high-tech, with expensive SUVs (some with out-of-state-plates) rolling up to collect the loot.

NYC, the people of - just reaping what they sowed - vote for socialists and their policies - get socialism. Get every one over the age of 50 released from prison regardless of conviction, sentence or crime committed. Use police contributions to bail out looters and refuse more police contributions. Arrest 70 plus looters and release them without bail, so they can all go out in time to get mote good loot as is their apparent right.

As a New Yorker,I am more disgusted with NYC, DeBozio and Cuomo ,than I am with the rabble allowed to cause the damage they did, all in the name of “justice”. I cannot even begin to think what was going on in the mind of the NYPD police Commissioner, who was not allowed to stop this thing from the onset. NYC was hurting to start off with. It will be a very long time for it to fully recover from the insanity allowed to occur. I for one will never pay a visit or spend a dime in NYC, ever again.

Stolen cars. I’m guessing various mobs, including the Italian crime families. During times of strife, I expect many mobsters look to the diversion of cops towards crowd control as a once in a blue moon chance to go after lucrative targets. De Blasio’s no arrest policy in spite of curfews is a big help. If you can’t arrest protestors for breaking curfew, you have to keep an eye on them. That means no resources to monitor potentially lucrative targets.

I worked in NYC for many years. First job after I got my MBA. I really love what NYC had to offer. Can't imaging going back for a long time.

No taxpayer bailouts, at least not on the Federal level. New York residents need to reap what they sow for their votes.

Organized crime paying off politicians to look the other way is nothing new. Makes me wonder if that’s going on now in NYC and elsewhere.

My grandfather retired from Macy’s. My father worked there when my older sister was born. She was the first baby whose birth was covered by the Macy’s employee’s health insurance plan in 1949.

It's going to be lovely nighttime weather in New York City for the next ten days.

Sucks to be them.

“I cannot even begin to think what was going on in the mind of the NYPD police Commissioner, who was not allowed to stop this thing from the onset. “

Correct me if I’m wrong, because I know little about NYC... After 9/11, wasn’t the city’s security beefed up beyond belief? Weren’t they somewhat militarized and geared up to withstand this type of “attack”? If so, I think DeBlasio could’ve put these riots down the very first night with little effort...but chose not to.

BTW, How did those 1968 riots work out for the Democrat party?

The entire NYC population is affected by this disaster. The sum reaction is all capable residents will vote with their feet.
Know one individual with $200,000/year Park Ave. office, $5,000/month rent now 1,000 miles away. Changed state of residence, closed NYC office, no more NYC rent, no more NY & NYC income tax. ETC.
Multiply this to all who can that will exit Gotham. The desolate NYC canyons loom.
