They attacked the White House last night.
Someone better say something and put a stop to it right away.
It was more like they attacked stuff in front of and near the white house last night. This evening there was a 7 pm curfew and people were peacefully demonstrating in front of Laffayette Park when suddenly a little before 7 pm, authorities suddenly sent tear gas and flash bangs at the demonstrators who left quickly. Then the president walked from the WH to a Church 2 blocks from the WH, went up on the steps with a bible in his hand and made a statement. The church’s minister said he had not contacted the church, they had not given him approval, and he did not have permission to make statements from private church property. There had been a small fire in a basement room the night before, quickly put out, and I imagine there must have been concern at the idea of the president making inflammatory statements from the church property itself.
Everything was much quieter this evening. Last night after the peaceful protestors had mostly dispersed at the 11 pm curfew, small numbers of trouble makers remained, setting fires to dumpsters and trash containers, breaking windows, throwing fire into the AFL-CIO building and the church, etc. They also burned a utility building in the park which was allowed to burn. When finally chased by the authorities, some moved on to the affluent Georgetown neighborhood where they joined others breaking windows, destroying the insides of stores, stealing consumer items, etc. This morning it was reported that 88 people had been arrested, mostly for robbery, and vandalism. Peaceful protestors are getting pretty angry for these trouble makers highjacking their efforts. This evening protesters were breaking the curfew and staying voluntarily to be arrested without violence.
