China and India face off on the roof of the world
BBC News ^ | 05/31/2020

The armies of the world's two most populous nations are locked in a tense face-off high in the Himalayas, which has the potential to escalate as they seek to further their strategic goals.

Officials quoted by the Indian media say thousands of Chinese troops have forced their way into Galwan valley in Ladakh, in the disputed Kashmir region.

Indian leaders and military strategists have clearly been left stunned.

The reports say that in early May, Chinese forces put up tents, dug trenches, and moved heavy equipment several kilometers inside what had been regarded by India as its territory. The move came after India built a road several hundred kilometers long connecting to a high-altitude forward airbase which it reactivated in 2008.

The message from China appears clear to observers in Delhi - this is not a routine incursion.

"The situation is serious. The Chinese have come into territory which they themselves accepted as part of India. It has completely changed the status quo," says Ajai Shukla, an Indian military expert who served as a colonel in the army.

China takes a different view, saying it's India which has changed facts on the ground.

India and China share a border more than 3,440km (2,100 miles) long and have overlapping territorial claims. Their border patrols often bump into each other, resulting in occasional scuffles but both sides insist no bullet has been fired in four decades.

Their armies - two of the world's largest - come face to face at many points. The poorly demarcated Line of Actual Control (LAC) separates the two sides. Rivers, lakes and snowcaps mean the line separating soldiers can shift and they often come close to confrontation.

The current military tension is not limited to Ladakh. Soldiers from the two sides are also eyeball-to-eyeball in Nathu La,

This should be news, but this is just one of the many stories, like the Space-X flight, which has been knocked off the news because of the ANTIFA riots. Its funny how every Riot has just enough black people to be in the news photos. But everyone in the background is white.

This is in keeping with thousands of years of Chinese history. They are seeking to expand and will until someone stops them. They consider deception an art form. Their ultimate goal is to become the global hegemon, which they believe is their right.

The U.S. must rally the world to confront them at every point. We must stress the need to remove supply chains from China for every critical component. We are already at war with them economically and culturally. A hot war may be inevitable.

RE: This is in keeping with thousands of years of Chinese history. They are seeking to expand and will until someone stops them.

CCP Apologists keep telling us the opposite. China, they say has not warred with any nation except to defend herself for over 500 years. All China is interested is trade and commerce.

These apologists even say that other than India and Bhutan, China has peacefully settled all border disputes with over 10 countries in which she shares a border ( including Russia ).

China is stepping on everybody’s toes all at once.
Maybe it’s a sign of desperation, like hitting all the white keys of a piano at once, to create overall dissonance and chaos.

I think China has made a strategic and tactical error. The tactical error is to assume they can use the CCP virus to literally, push their boundaries. The strategic error is pushing against too many countries at the same time. Now, they risk the very real possibility that many of those countries will use the conflict that they must concentrate on, India, to push back and occupy territory while China can’t risk using force to stop them. China is risking a multi-front war.

So, if somebody can clandestinely arm the Uyghurs and/or the Tibetans or the Hong Kongers, the Chinese will have their hands full. Even if they are not armed, they can tie down significant forces.

Historically most of the conflict over Kashmir has been with the Paki, not the Chinese. This is different. China seems to be seeking to strengthen tactical and strategic ties with Pakistan at Indias expense. China has the initiative and appears to be deliberate in pressing the advantage.

Apologists here forget the Chinese Communists have invaded Philippines, Malaysian, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Bruneian, Japanese and South Korean territory as well. Sea boundaries matter as well.

As a former grunt, I will say that an infantry fight at around 9000 ft MSL would really make it suck more.

I know.
My husband and I visited the areas, both Kashmir AND China. We were in the area just a little over three weeks.

I think that your analysis is right on the money.

Are there any free traitors here that are still willing to defend our free trade deals with the Chinese Communists? I’d really love to hear from them about how we have benefited from the lower prices of goods produced over there.

China has long occupied a portion of Kashmir.

The Kashmiris I have known don’t want the Chinese, the Indians, or the Pakistanis. They want independence — Kashmir for the Kashmiris.
