A passenger plane belonging to state-run airline Pakistani International Airlines has crashed near the southern port city of Karachi, according to Abdul Sattar Kokhar, spokesman for the country's civil aviation authority.

It’s pakistan, they don’t exactly have the best pilot/airframe mechanic training.... I’d just as soon fly on Aeroflot before flying on some 7th century neanderthal airline.
Hell pakistan is only one or two technological steps above rubbing two sticks together.
The pilot called air traffic control stating one engine was done. The plane should be able to land safely with one engine so there is much more that went wrong. Perhaps the engine blew up causing other systems to fail.

This video appears to contain part of the Mayday call. I unterstand “we have lost engines”, plural. Not sure though.
So, it's not an American plane, whatever went wrong is between the Paks & Euros, nothing to do with us.

There was a video on YouTube on the “ blancolirio” channel. A planespotter took a photo. The plane did an initial approach and at the last second requested a “go-around”. The planespotter photo is just after they started the go-around. The photo shows the landing
gear up, both engine nacelles damaged and the “rat” (ram air turbine) deployed. That only deploys if both engines lose power. The turbine acts like a generator and makes power for the plane’s electrical and hydraulic systems. The theory is the pilot tried to land the plane gear-up, damaged the engines and then lost both engines on the go-around attempt crashing into a populated area.

Oh yeah, swap them for the 737Max which is a 50+/- year old design with patchwork “upgrades” so unreliable that no pilot input is necessary for them to fly into the ground.
Boeing use their bought and paid for Congress critters to force the FAA to bend to their will.
So let’s let the fox guard the henhouse by having Boeing engineers act as FAA “inspectors”... Nah, no conflict of interest there.
Boeing was once a great company that designed incredibly strong, long lasting and safe aircraft. But that company DIED when they merged with McDonnell Douglas.

We don't know yet what the problem was in this crash, but in the unlikely event it was an aircraft/engine design problem, the Pakistani's might want to consider replacing their orders for new Airbuses with a Boeing equivalent.
As for the 737-Max, it did have problems in the hands of unqualified pilots, and so is not for sale now until, apparently, Boeing can figure out how to make it 100% idiot-proof.

Now you're telling us that competition makes manufacturers better than having all the monopoly power they want?
Well, I certainly agree in theory, whether that happened in this particular case is for others to say, I don't know.
But President Trump likes Boeing, and he flies a lot more than I do, so I'll take his word for it, over yours, FRiend.
