Humboldt County wouldn’t have any hospital left at all after I got done suing them.
Prayers for the family and for their lawyers to put the hospital and doctors out of business.
I believe doctors are the second highest cause of unnecessary deaths in the US, after auto accidents.
Because of something that happened in Reno I found out that Nevada passed a 300k limit on malpractice and consequently no lawyer will take a case. So if you’re an incompetent DR then go to Nevada.
The only place I’d trust is Las Vegas - an not so sure bout that.
I seldom go to the doctor for fear he might find something to treat me for.
Keep a sharp eye out for the rattlers as we reenter the wilds on these cool, sunny days out west.
3 years old is on the small side.
The whole “unknwn” thing about how big the snake, how much venom, etc and she would have been off my site to the nearest critical care hospital - muy pronto.
Sad for the family.

They should have said she might have the virus..then she would have got the royal treatment.
As bad as I hate to say it this happens in rattler country and Winnemucca is in the middle of it and with a population of 8000 I’m surprised they even have a hospital let alone the antivenom needed. If they do have the antivenom it has to be the right one and it’s important to know which rattler it was. They have 5 species in Nevada and one in particular is really bad. The Mojave also carries a neurotoxin and a hemotoxin in it’s bite requiring a different than just antivenom. Most rattlers just carry a hemotoxin. The respiratory problem leads me to believe it was a Mojave. If it was then CRO-FAB would have been needed and it’s not that effective with Mojave’s even though they’re one of the snakes used to make it.
But before we take an action, we must ask the child seer and beautiful Goddess, child of Athena, niece of Jesus, grand daughter of the Buddha, mother of Mohammed come back to us from yesteryear to lead, alas the girl prophet, Greta.
Then they would have put her in isolation for two weeks.
Yeah. Like the patient sitting on the exam table and the doctor says “ you got here just in time. If you waited any longer you’d be fine”. Condolences to the parents.

The could try federal and do a miniclass action involving others hurt by the same hospital...don’t know if that would fly.
You can see the lawyers lined up around the block to represent the family. Tragic.

In the back of my mind from 30-40 years ago, I recall a time when doctors in some country went on strike for a while — maybe India (not sure). During the period when doctors weren’t working, mortality rate in the country decreased substantially.
Where can society go to sue the parents for not being diligent enough to keep their 3 year old from getting bitten by a poisonous snake?
I had a friend with a similar story, but it was a BIG moccasin just outside the Houston area. He was an experienced outdoorsman and could barely convince the first medical team that the bite was indeed from a moccasin. They did not have an anti-venom in the pretty large suburban hospital.
Eventually, he was sped to one of the major Houston hospitals where he recovered after a sketchy few days.
