The FBI arrested an Arkansas professor who failed to disclose ties to the Chinese government and Chinese companies before securing funding for a NASA research project, the Justice Department announced Wednesday.

Simon Saw-Teong Ang, 63, was arrested Friday and charged with wire fraud.

The Justice Department alleges that the electrical engineering professor and researcher at the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville (UA) has committed fraud against NASA and the university since 1988 "by failing to disclose that he held other positions at a Chinese university and Chinese companies.”

Ang faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

His ties came to light after a university employee tried to find the owner of a hard drive that was placed in lost-and-found at a campus library, according to court documents obtained by CNN.

The employee found an email exchange between Ang and a visiting researcher from Xidian University in Xi'an, China. In the September 2018 email discussion, Ang said that the current political climate was making his situation at the university difficult.

Yeah, difficult as a double agent, doubly paid IP spy.

These people spy, steal and pirate anything they come across.
I wrote a college level textbook on piezoelectric physics a year an a half ago (subject matter is very hard and the book will never be on the best seller list). My publisher has sold about 150 copies, but there are over 1000 pirate copies in circulation (mostly Chinese, but some Indian).

Seems like most Chinese academics are spies. We should kick all out of US, including the students, who are next generation of spies. Free those jobs and classroom seats up for loyal Americans.

“These people spy, steal and pirate anything they come across.”

A relative works for a company who make industrial sniffers of chemicals. On the circuit board they made a mistake-left a circuit patch like a dead end road but did not hurt anything and more costly to replace all the boards so they left it. It was a clear mistake.

Chinese copied their sniffers right down to the mistake on the circuit board. Probably thought it was for a future purpose planned.

Your experience is all too common, Jack. India in particular has a huge optical character recognition industry, scanning and churning out printed matter night and day regardless of copyright. The finished product is inevitably shot thru with errors. But they’re fast.

OUT ALL THE TRAITORS... Start with ‘academia’... then move on to the ‘global warming’ nuts... Yes, they are connected.

Not only that, but businesses short of cash will willingly sell technology to China. In one of my jobs, the company had developed high impact steel extrusion machines over a period of 6 decades through trial and error process. One year the business was slow, so the owner of company sold all the engineering know-how to Chinese gov’t for about $10 million in today’s dollars.

I assume the fellow is Chinese and has family in China. NO Chinese origin person who cannot show that he has NO relatives in China should be allowed in our universities or near any sort of tech or defense work. The threat of harm to their families is much stronger an inducement than it is with the average run of Americans. Relatives in China of anyone in the USA are hostage to the “good behaviour” of the one in America, no matter what his status.

According to a Chinese dissident here some years ago, some of the ‘scholars’ that come to the US and Canada are the children of communist party officials who often don’t have the grades needed to land jobs abroad and need forged credentials. He said he was very poor and getting out of China was near impossible for him for lack of bribe money, but the company he worked for was in the business of procuring such documents for these clients. The average people without connections have to bribe neighborhood grannies to even travel inside the country, much more money and/or smoozing is needed to get permission to go abroad.

Small potatoes.

Maybe the FBI office in Little Rock has nothing better to do, or this guy is a bigger fish then they are letting on.

Out here in California, guys like him are a dime a dozen. They not only do what he did, but they commute to China routinely to check in and catch up on the great plan: domination of the world by them.

When will the fibbies do something about that?

Answer: NEVER. They agree with the Chinese that White America is evil, and must be swamped in a sea of foreigners.

That’s the people in our “government”. Xenophilic and Ameriphobic, they tried to take out the most nationalist President we’ve had since Polk.

And that’s the real problem.

And to think that Mrs. Bill Clinton got away with (so far) giving thousands and thousands of Secret and Top Secret emails to the Russians and the Chinese.

There is something definitely wrong when someone commits espionage and has been since 1988.

It stinks to high heaven that he'll get maybe 20 years for 32 years worth of espionage.

Why is it that our government can't do a damn thing right or timely?

A fish rots from the head and there should be firings in these agencies.
