The lockdowns are completely counter-productive at this point. Lockdowns are increasing the number of impoverished people and causing a huge loss of personal income in America. The negative impact of increasing poverty and lost income on public health is much greater than the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak, so there’s no good reason to keep any of the states locked down at this time. The benefit of the lockdowns is to slow down the outbreak of the virus and spread out the cases of COVID-19 over a longer length of time, so that the medical system doesn’t get overloaded by a sudden surge of cases. That’s been accomplished, so now it’s time to reopen the economy.

People with pre-existing conditions or weakened immune systems should still self-isolate and stay at home for a while. But lockdowns are now greatly damaging public health when we look at overall health and all disease rates, and not just focus on COVID-19. The economic damage is of course indisputable and huge. So it’s now time to reopen all the state economies. The Republican governors need to start talking about these issues and telling the true story of the impact of lockdowns, poverty, and lost income on overall public health.

To me, the colors make sense, and this is how I remember them:

Blue states = oxygen-starved, mentally damaged, libs trying their best to destroy everything good in this country

Red states = red-blooded Americans, patriots who know what’s at stake if we lose to the ‘Rats who want the USA reduced to the lowest common misery, by any means necessary, at any cost.
