The Pulitzer Prizes have become a sick joke

New York Times correspondent Walter Duranty, as Andrea Widburg notes here, got a Pulitzer prize for lying about the massive crimes of communism in what was then the Ukraine. It's supposedly an embarassment.

But not if you check out who got a Pulitzer this time:

Greg Grandin, Hugo Chavez's biggest apologist. A guy who defends Hugo Chavez and all his crimes to his last breath. I'm not talking about a guy like Bernie Sanders who says 'yes socialism in Venezuela is great but there are problems.' Grandin is a real dyed-in-the-wool useful stooge who can't stop praising the brutal communist dictator. There never were a lot of those around, but the shills that were there were loud. Given the embarassment of socialism now, there are even fewer. But Grandin is one of them.

Here's Al Jazeera's report on Grandin who tells us with a straight face what a great guy this thug of Caracas was:

As historian Greg Grandin noted in his Chavez obituary for The Nation last March: "Over the last 14 years, Chavez has submitted himself and his agenda to 14 national votes, winning 13 of them by large margins, in polling deemed by Jimmy Carter to be 'best in the world' out of the 92 elections that he has monitored."

Beyond relentless elections, Grandin cites "[t]he participatory democracy that took place in barrios, in workplaces and in the countryside" during the Chavez era and credits grassroots organisations and social movements for their "heroic work in democratising society, in giving citizens venues to survive the extremes of neoliberalism and to fight against further depredations".

It is this landscape that prompts Grandin's contention: "Venezuela might be the most democratic country in the Western Hemisphere."

The Times won in the categories of commentary, investigative journalism and international reporting.

What was their prize for commentary?

Commentary: Nikole Hannah-Jones for The 1619 Project

Ms. Hannah-Jones was recognized for her essay examining how slavery shaped the country — from its democracy to its material wealth — and how slavery’s legacy has persisted for the 400 years since the first slave ship reached Virginia.

It was part of The 1619 Project, a series from New York Times writers and guest essayists including Bryan Stevenson, Trymaine Lee and Linda Villarosa.

I always thought it was a Communist Prize; like "Hero of the Soviet Union."

They’re in good company. So have the Nobel Prizes, the Oscars, the Tonys, the Phonys, the Baloneys ... and all the rest of those meaningless celebutard awards given to the most PC virtue-signalers.

Hearing about a Pulitzer prize usually makes me think of something disgusting, like a 40 year old man having sex with his 18 year old daughter.

Just like the Nobel peace prize or literature prize.

Another tool to push leftist agenda.

In doing so they’ve devalued themselves to irrelevancy.

Leftwing communists honoring fellow leftwing communists.

This became obvious when the prize was awarded for reporting on the fake Russia collusion story.
