This happened a few weeks ago. Nobody seriously injured, amazingly.

That Maine governor is really determined to keep the state shut down.

WOW. I have heard that very fine sawdust can explode. Wonder what the cause was, because that REALLY went up.

Tough on those folks who depended on it.

That’s as bad as when they blew the dead whale up.

I knew nothing about pulp processing, had to go read.

Pulp digester...must be nasty in there. That must be what smells so lousy.

I frisking loved that video.

It is what you would expect a bunch of teenagers to do, not the authorities.

What I found hilarious about that was when the rotting pieces of whale began to rain down on them, the revulsion was evident...

And that car crushed by a great big huge portion of airborne rotting blubber...

I love that video...there are so many facets to it...

To me, and I have been around those mills A LOT, it looks like the pressure built up in one of the digesters. A digester is what could be compared to a HUGE pressure cooker. It is used to break down the wood chips into fiber before it is spread out on the screens to start the papermaking process after it is all bleached out to make the paper white.

That black stuff? Thats the back liquor and its a byproduct from the wood fiber.

Black liquor is often used in the boilers in those mills for fuel and, it can be reclaimed and re-used in the pulping process.

Black liquor can also be used to make a very fine bio-fuel for engines. Except, our stupid EPA regs do not allow it-or at least did not allow it.

A kraft mill uses a lot of sulfides in the process. Thats the rotten egg smell around those mills.

What is the black liquor...is it a petroleum byproduct of the cooking process, some kind of pine tar liquid?

Here rimorel.

Its better for you to see this than I could explain it to you by myself. It’d take me a year the way I explain things.

As a side note. Verso paper just sold that mill to these guys in FEB.

So the new owners are lawyering up and away they go.

I bet..that the operators in that dept were not paying attention to the pressures and might even have been doing whatever—Its common in a papermill to find the boys resting peacefully on the job if you get my drift.

But, the new owners are most likely saying that Verso knew they had problems and that’s why they sold that mill...yadda yadda.. Verso will say what I said above..

I sold roundwood for pulp to Verso in the UP when I was in the logging business up there.
