No wonder guys are eschewing marriage. I hear the market for Russian brides is brisk, however.

There are many reasons for this. It’s easy to get divorced for one.
Second, if you get divorced, divorce law makes it painful, usually for the man but not always. There are women who go through the wringer as well. And as far as the mans obligations in a divorce, who wants to pay alimony to a grown woman, particularly a childless woman in 2020?
Third, society views men as oppressive patriarchs so women grow up distrusting men and children are less likely to listen to men.
Fourth, women are encouraged to be more promiscuous, so men have a lot of opportunity for six without marriage. Also, women are more likely to have children without being married because of the premarital sex culture.
Fifth, you have children of divorcees who don’t want to subject themselves or children to divorce.
Promiscuous women are the norm rather than the exception today and those loose morals translate into a higher rate of female infidelity.
Feminist leaning courts most times give excessive awards to women even when they’ve been unfaithful. It puts a man in an impossible position, they feel they have no choice but to divorce but in order to get a cheating spouse out of their life they have to give up most of their assets, assets that usually were accrued almost solely as a result of the man’s labor.
Yes, I speak from experience here. Knowing that you can’t divorce an unfaithful wife without losing your life’s work is a huge factor in the reluctance of many men to marry today. Any man who at least doesn’t consider it is a fool. I was a fool. I would never, ever marry again without an ironclad prenuptial agreement and most likely would protect my assets with a trust also. I don’t plan on remarrying though, once through that wringer is enough.
My adult son — case in point — “together” 10 years with same woman. Purchased a home not together in his name 7 years ago. His girlfriend as he calls her splits the utilities and food. If and when they break up it will be a huge legal problem because she will want her share of the assets she feels she deserves.
I don’t think they thought it out what a long term togetherness means just shacking up sounded good at the time. Immature kids with no plan but not guarantee of a promise of a future.
I hear ya-common law is enough for me-I have VA/military survivors benefits from my late husband that I’d lose if I did it with a license-I can’t afford to lose those benefits-especially with work down to nothing right now-since we are far from young, es no le hace as far as we’re concerned-I don’t believe any government entity needs to be selling marriage licenses or be involved in it at all anyway-marriage is for a man and woman only- not same sex partners-to do before a clergyman-or before God-secular government shouldn’t have anything to do with it-if they didn’t, we wouldn’t have this same sex marriage sh** going on-clergy would have just said “no” and that would have been the end-no lawsuits, no court rulings on “rights”, etc-just my dos centavos...
Most young people don’t seem to be mature enough to handle marriage-unless they are in the military, they can’t even manage a bank account and WAY too many live at home with mom and dad paying the bills, while they are as self-absorbed as 12-to 14 year old kids at 25...
Sixth, motherhood is cast as hell in the modern media.
