GOP lawmakers call for vote on stay at home extension
State Journal-Register ^ | April 29, 2020 | Doug Finke

Jacksonville Republican Rep. C.D. Davidsmeyer said Wednesday Illinois lawmakers should be called back to Springfield to vote on whether to extend the state-at-home order that Gov. JB Pritzker is planning to extend.

Davidsmeyer, along with Reps. Norine Hammond of Macomb and Dan Ugaste of Geneva, contended that Pritzker does not have the authority to extend the order beyond its original 30 days. Pritzker declared the original order – which was to expire April 30 – will be extended until the end of May, although with modifications.

“What we are talking about here is the governor’s authority to go past that 30 days of emergency power,” Davidsmeyer said. “Whether you agree... or disagree with the governor, we believe that a separate but equal branch of the government, the General Assembly, should have input in the direction of the state of Illinois.”

Davidsmeyer and Hammond rejected the notion that the legislature should meet remotely as some governmental bodies have done. Hammond said that members of the public could be barred from the Capitol while the legislature is meeting as long as the proceedings are made available through other means.

The news conference was in contrast to lawsuits that have been filed by two other Republicans House members challenging the stay-at-home order. Rep. Darren Bailey, R-Xenia, won a temporary restraining order that applies only to him that prevents enforcement of a state at home order that affects his activities. Rep. John Cabello, R-Machesney Park, filed a class action lawsuit Wednesday challenging the order on behalf of all Illinois residents.

Our Dear Leader here in Colorado has just said that we can’t travel more than 10 miles for recreation. This man has single-handedly destroyed the Bill of Rights. It is now a Bill of Privileges. Where are the Republicans and their lawsuits?

Link please. I am not doubting you, but we need to be able to see these unenforceable unconstitutional orders.

I’m glad that class action was filed. I see no reason to shut down the entire nation just because some of us are at risk. I am one, but I choose to stay home and my family takes precautions when they have to come and go, as do I. We have a whole decon process to go through when one walks in the door.

Right don't we just make Wilmur the fall guy, and be done with it?

Thanks, I had not seen that and it didnt come up in a simple google after I saw your post.

This is, as I suspected, both unconstitutional as well as unenforceable. I cant imagine how police are supposed to determine if they want to ticket you because you are more than 10 miles from home and on a purely recreational trip. Polis is dictating out his rectal orifice.

Putzker does what he is told to do by Illinois Crime Boss Mike Madigan. The GOP is the minority party in Illinois - they can’t pass anything.

The Illinois legislature needs to order the state national guard to arrest the governor for crimes against people of Illinois.

And if any leftist dingbats start bellowing about the “rule of law,” screw you. There is no rule of law apparent in the governor’s illegal and unconstitutional diktats.
