On Earth Day, pope says nature will not forgive our trespasses

VATICAN CITY, April 22 (Reuters) - Pope Francis made an impassioned plea for protection of the environment on Wednesday's 50th anniversary of the first Earth Day, saying the coronavirus pandemic had shown that some challenges had to be met with a global response.

Francis praised the environmental movement, saying it was necessary for young people to "take to the streets to teach us what is obvious, that is, that there will be no future for us if we destroy the environment that sustains us".

The pope, who wrote a major encyclical in 2015 on the defence of nature and the dangers of climate change, dedicated his general audience - broadcast from his library because of the coronavirus lockdown - to the theme.

Recounting a Spanish proverb that God always forgives, man sometimes forgives but nature never forgives, Francis said: "If we have deteriorated the Earth, the response will be very ugly."

A landmark in the emergence of the environmental movement when it first took place in 1970, this year's Earth Day has prompted calls from many, including U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, for governments to pursue "green recovery" in response to coronavirus

Both the pope and Guterres have made environmental protection and climate change signature themes of their offices.

"We see these natural tragedies, which are the Earth's response to our maltreatment," Francis said. "I think that if I ask the Lord now what he thinks about this, I don't think he would say it is a very good thing. It is we who have ruined the work of God."

Saying the Earth was not an endless deposit of resources to exploit, he said: "We have sinned against the Earth, against our neighbour and, in the end, against the creator."

Last year, after a synod of bishops from the Amazon region, Francis said he was considering adding a definition of "ecological sins" in the Roman Catholic Church's Catechism, a compendium of teachings and rules.

Francis, like Guterres, has likened the response to environmental dangers to that of the coronavirus.

"Only together, and looking after the most fragile (members of society) can we win global challenges," the pope said.

So far, massive economic stimulus packages launched by the United States, China and European governments have focused mainly on staunching the damage to existing industries and staving off the threat of a global depression.

But ministers from Germany, France and other EU members have signalled their support for subsequent interventions to align with climate goals, a theme taken up by climate campaign groups around the world. (Editing by Janet Lawrence)

I had an interesting discussion with my parish priest a few years back regarding the unforgivable sin of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, and just what that might consist of. He opined that the belief that God (in the person of the Holy Spirit) was unable to forgive any sin, was in and of itself, unforgivable, i.e. if a person did something they felt was beyond God's redeeming power, it was not the sin itself, but the lack of faith in the redemptive power of God, that was the blasphemy.

So it would seem, as the headline suggests, Francis is indulging in blasphemy against the Spirit.

Sorry Frankie, but I worship the creator not the creation. I do my best to follow his instructions on being a good steward.

The world is here for us to use and make productive for ourselves and our posterity.

So the pope now believes the nature is a deity?

It’s just proof of what the bible says about God’s spirit being poured out upon all flesh in the latter days. The author wrote a book of fiction yet there was prophecy all through it. The whole of the “TRUE CHURCH OF CHRIST” moves in prophecy and in the gospel that saves and equips us for functioning in grace.

You look at what Christ said about it in the context of what had happened. Christ had just been accused of doing miracles by the power of Satan, not by the power of the Holy Spirit. He said,”even if you don’t believe in me, I would rather that you at least believed that the miracles were of God...every sort of blasphemy can be forgiven but blasphemy against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.”

Apparently calling special moves of God as being sourced in evil is a huge wounding thing to God. It is better to hold back judgment if a miracle seems questionable until we see the ultimate fruit of it. A man who does a miracle but denies that Christ is come in the flesh is a man whose miracles’ source powers can be questioned as such a person is operating under an Antichrist impulse. Christ was even willing to deny himself as long as the work of the Father and the Spirit went forward. That is why he put his accusers on a very firm line of caution; I hope for their sakes their accusations were seen by God as just ignorant brain flatulence and that those that needed to, heard Christ’s warning and repented.

“My wife and I drove by a high school yesterday and it had some kind of “Gaia” message on the sign in front, that made me swear aloud.”

I’ve had that exact experience.

“It’s only the very first Commandment.“

I’ve noticed of late that the magisterium, if it hasn’t abandoned the ten commandments altogether, has put asterisk on most and certainly has eliminated the first three.

I keep wondering if the little creep has ever read the Bible.

At the very least the Pope seems to be encouraging the worship of nature in direct violation of the first and second commandments. He is also stating that nature has a personality whose powers of hatred and nonforgiveness is greater than He who stood at the boat’s bow and commanded that same stormy nature to....”Cease...Be Still!”.

This Pope is like the Joe Biden pope of the Catholic Church...he seems to be in dementia and needs to be retired and cloistered.

Just as in Noah’s day, this Joker worships the creation instead of the creator.

Not too sure God will be ecstatic with folks who pervert his Word and have agendas out side of His, while allegedly doing His work.

This man is a pagan. Nature is in absolute subjection to Jesus the Messiah, who ALONE has the power to forgive sins.

Dope on a rope pope.

He should stick to whatever it is that he is good at and leave the rest of us alone.

I think my wife sees me as possessed sometimes...I don’t watch television (and haven’t for about 20 years) but I walk by sometimes, see one of the usual suspects or subects on, and mutter under my breath “Jesus Christ.” and she scowls at me...

He should stick to whatever it is that he is good at...

He's good at destroying a true religion and launching a new humanist one. He's an agnostic socialist enemy of the free world.
