Mayor Eric Garcetti warned Sunday that the economic downturn facing Los Angeles will be more painful than the 2008 recession, requiring cuts to government programs and the furlough of thousands of city employees.

In a remarkable State of the City address, one that comes five weeks into the shutdown of many businesses, government buildings and other facilities, Garcetti declared that the city is “under attack” from the coronavirus and the economic fallout that has come with it.

What a moron.

If they didn’t do this a month ago it’s as if they wanted the epidemic to have means to grow.

...the economic downturn facing Los Angeles will be more painful than the 2008 recession...

Duh. Even before the virus, a lot of people were saying we are due for a bigger correction than that one. Heck, I said that what Trump needs is for it to just hold off past election day. And then this black swan hit.

It’s going to be ugly. I mean 1930’s ugly. Or worse...

The attack comes from his poor choices and actions.

But residents will loose access to agencies, reduced services and then find themselves paying when the furloughed monies are restored.

“However, as they would hamper global travel and trade, such restrictions are not recommended by WHO once the global spread of pandemic influenza is established.”

https://www.who.int/bulletin/volumes/92/12/14-135590/en/

Travel restrictions were included in the WHO interim protocol: rapid operations to contain the initial emergence of pandemic influenza that was published in 2007 by the World Health Organization (WHO).1

However, as they would hamper global travel and trade, such restrictions are not recommended by WHO once the global spread of pandemic influenza is established.

In 2009, some countries applied travel restrictions as one of several strategies to prevent the introduction of the influenza virus A(H1N1)pdm09 into their territories but the effectiveness of this approach has subsequently been questioned....

These a-holes are crying wolf and trying to scam FedGov in FedGov dollars. This money will never get to the people. The money will go to bailout their pension plans.

You can bet M(ay)oron Garcetti will join the crowd of RAT mayors and governors looking for a federal bailout to pay for and cover up for their massive incompetence!

Although I have little respect for WHO, that is very interesting.

Thanks.

The solution is easy. Go back to work.

I fear it's too late for that. Thousands of businesses have shuttered. They're dead. There's no bringing them back now. No jobs. No place to go back to work. It will take years to dig ourselves out of this. I hope I'm wrong.

The amazing part of this is that he assumes that furloughing city employees will upset anyone, the only time it pisses people off is when they’re still getting paid while laying around at home.

And in 2010 they admitted they stopped counting H1N1 deaths when they realized that millions were infected. The CDC and WHO said they would rely on models to estimate the numbers of deaths.

We are being sold hysteria and overreach.

They have pivoted from the stance they used to take at this is at the urging of Bill Gates’ foundation. He’s a doomsday zealot on par with Al Gore Junior.

It’s not the coronavirus causing this. It’s the politicians.
