The mask is the new liberal cool thing to wear, kinda like the Yellow Lance Armstrong band.
Vast swaths of this population have stubbornly refused to behave responsibly since at least the 1960’s.
What gives them the idea that this is going to change now?
It identifies you as willing to subjectively take orders from government without question.
>>But it is untenable to lock down much of the country until a proven-safe vaccine is available in a year or more.
The next SARS, H1N1 etc outbreak they will lock us down again
It won’t just be used for flair ups of CV19.
Well, we’re reaching the reward the guilty, punish the innocent phase. It is now all the fault of us peons.
>>The mask is the new liberal cool thing to wear,
The bandanna masks and surgical masks have been revolutionary chic since the times of BLM and Communist af
Bicycle courier “critical mass” vandals loved them a decade ago
I’m not wearing any mask and I haven’t been out of my house since last October, other than when my son takes me to Fort Campbell, which is 5 miles from our house to go grocery shopping.
>>Thus, it will be necessary to stigmatize dangerous behavior that risks spreading the virus and prolonging the pandemic.
Like bugchasing, bathhouses, licking toilet seats, etc?
Or going to concerts and sports
Or even going into work with seasonal allergies and weeks of nasal drip and itchy eyes?
Be more responsible and vote for what is right instead of just thinking about the perceived effect on your pocketbook.
Stores have been ordered to refuse service to people not wearing a mask, under penalty of fines and other measures.
Who would have guessed that the Communist Revolution would come about as a response to the common cold?
It tells me who I cannot trust. It tells me who would willingly become a Block Captain for the communists.
I am hoping that Covid-19 shows the same seasonality as its benign common cold virus cousins. Then we will have a reprieve over the summer.
When bars, clubs and restaurants reopen, they and their patrons will still need to find ways to keep people spaced out.
I'm thinking that keeping people spaced out in bars should not be an issue; most of the patrons are already spaced out to some degree. Maybe the author meant to say "spaced apart."
It would also be better if people just stay home when they are sick. This simple self-isolation is one of the most effective methods of containment, but there are strong headwinds against it in the United States. As for adults, many Americans embrace a culture of working through illness. But it also arises from turning sick days into vacation days; some people will work through an illness in order to save their sick days for personal use later.
I'm not sure if it was law or policy, but as a supervisor, I had the right to ask for a doctor's note any time someone was out sick. The policy was to ask for one if the person was out for 3 days or more, but I could ask for one any time, especially if I suspected malingering. For example, "Monday morning flu" is a common ailment among alcoholics who spend the weekend binge drinking. I didn't have any employees like that, but I was taught about that.
Yep, they are the ones who will turn you in.
Exactly. College students are one example. They would not isolate. We finally sent vast numbers of them home (they were our county’s entry point...2 cases off Spring Break)
Here in PA, the order is to refuse you service unless you’re wearing one.
The really have the subjects by the balls.
“until a proven-safe vaccine is available in a year or more.”
Didn’t they start on an HIV vaccine — back in the ‘80s — with none yet? I’m not sure we want to wait for a vaccine for this before we can get back to living. We’ll all be dead from old age before a vaccine shows up.
The key is “responsible.”
When was the last time Americans were asked to be responsible.
Most people on this forum cannot stand being home for three weeks without screaming bloody murder because their 401(k)s are dropping.
I think the use of the word “responsible” is foreign to 90% of Americans.
