We are in the first county Gov Wolf targeted for restrictions before rolling them out to the rest of the state. For a while we had 75% of the state's cases. Although people have grumbled a bit, generally they have complied with the stream of directives. I think there is a lot of resistance to wearing masks in public. We go out walking most days, since they haven't boarded us into our homes (yet). Among people just out walking in the parks and neighborhoods, I'd estimate 25% mask compliance - if that.They are being sensible about distancing and respectful. They are just making their own decisions about the matter. I read it as a repudiation of the governor's latest edict. They are sick of it after more than a month of eclipsed living. The hospitals keep being warned about a surge coming, but they are still below capacity. It's a good thing, but it also undermines the layering on of additional restrictions a month in.

I ventured into the big chain (Giant) food store this week, and found it converted to the pandemic grocery, with one-way entry and exit, barricaded sections, arrows on the aisle floors, and a corral for people ready to check out. You had to wait (6 feet apart) for an available cashier and be flagged to it. Just like in the fun days of visiting my family behind the Iron Curtain, some shelves were completely bare and others very sparse. There was no flour, sugar or leavening. Meat selection was limited, and most paper goods, cleaning supplies and food wraps were unavailable or severely limited. This was during senior hour at 6am when presumably everything was restocked. It is very unsettling. We need to get this country back to work and get these petty tyrants to back off. I am glad to see that there is a protest planned for the state house on Monday. It's time. Pennsylvanians are a pretty patient lot, but it was the cradle of liberty and we haven't forgotten.

Good point re. the great outdoors. We don't have such severe restrictions here; but, OTOH, we're docile Canadians -- we do what we're told to do. IMHO, some combination of two reasons led to such severe restrictions:

1. A few bad apples are spoiling the barrel. Some people can't be relied on to act responsibly; so, everyone has to suffer.

2. A certain ilk of politicians enjoys exercising dictatorial powers.
