Wearing face masks in close contact situations MIGHT be fine, but simply stated as “in public” universally, with no context, has no science behind it.

My nephew’s wife is an infectious disease doctor, the I.D. head expert at her hosipital, with a few Wuhan virus patients, north of Manhattan. SHE does not wear a mask “in public” universally, regardless of context. I think she knows what she is doing.

I will grab the beast and risk ridicule and being totally wrong in this case.

The majority of young doctors have educated in different paradigm than the old guys. The new ones often brag about practicing “Best Evidence” medicine. They primarily rely on algorithms and flow charts and have to learn to rely on experience and their own senses and analytical judgments.

A lot of the old school docs might disagree with her.

And people will argue until the cows come home that we’re not receiving mixed messages! Trust them, they say! You have to wonder if they ever heard of Nazi Germany!

These are the people who will NEVER give up the power given to them with orders like this. Think the Mayor in Beverly, MA is going to relinquish his power after he can dictate HOW people are to walk on sidewalks from now on? Oh - temporary, is it? HA! Or mayors in FL cities who order that property owners don’t have the right to their private beaches?

How on earth did we ever get to this stage?

“A lot of the old school docs might disagree with her.”

I would call her an old school doc and certainly not one “bragging about practicing best medicine”. She never threw antibiotics at her kids when they were growing up and does not “primarily rely on algorithms and flow charts”, having been taught well in the 1980s here and abroad by other old school docs. What she does not do is react to unsubstantiated claims, yet, in emergenies and for the life of her patients she does not restrict herself to all FDA mandates. She has applied Hydroxychloroquine to some of her Covid-19 patients, after considering concerns about regarding patients with certain pre-existing conditions.

You should not assume you know others whom you do not know.

I speculated based on lots of experience, and tried to couch terms in the possible, not the certain.

She sounds better than most, but even Homer nods.

There was that study in Germany that said people don’t need to wear masks and that it doesn’t live on surfaces. I read it here earlier this morning.

It’s the stupidest bunch of crap I’ve ever seen outside the pachyderm house at the zoo. Doesn’t have jack-schitt to do with public safety. It’s about control. Nothing more, nothing less. All the mask-lovers out there are welcome to get up on their high horses and belittle anyone with a differing opinion all they want. Doesn’t make them right.

“Did you really think we want those laws observed?" said Dr. Ferris. "We want them to be broken. You'd better get it straight that it's not a bunch of boy scouts you're up against... We're after power and we mean it... There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What's there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted – and you create a nation of law-breakers – and then you cash in on guilt. Now that's the system, Mr. Reardon, that's the game, and once you understand it, you'll be much easier to deal with.” ― Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged
