Many people believe we're under-counting the Covid-19 infection rate, but Italian data suggest we may be getting the death numbers wrong too.

Having been a hospital financial and statistical analyst in my working career, I know the reporting of diagnosis and cause of death is more of an art than a defined science. Throw in coding algorithms to maximize reimbursement you can easily get skewed stats. If a patient has heart disease, copd, and diabetes, did the Covid19 kill the patient?

Well, I’ve had Diabetes for 10 years, and during that time, 2 heart attacks.

I’ve been alive this whole time.

If I with Covid, what do you think killed me?

Only the elite can see all these bodies.
They are invisible to worthless people.
Bodies! Corpses in the streets!
Dead babies in the rivers!

Or we may not.

Are we nearing the overload point at which one more fearful, depressing, anxiety inducing bit of data will be one too many?

"And then in today's non coronavrus news , uh, oh,uh, sorry I see we're out of time. Here's the traffic and weather."

Then we'll cut ourselves off from the news like the old Beat Generation, or "drop out" like the Timothy Leary hippies?

Or become renunciants like the various guru ashram communities.

Actually, sounding better all the time.

This article: We may be underestimating the Wuhan Flu death toll.
Next article: We may be overestimating the Wuhan Flu death toll.
This moment: Underestimating. Next moment: Overestimating.
Prior moment: That is unproven. Next moment: Growing evidence it is working.
Media: We’re all going to die!!!
Gov’t: We’re all going to die!!! Maybe. Maybe not.

I am so way past that.

By now everyone has been exposed to the virus so anyone who dies can pop hot for it.

“Italian data”?

Reminds me of a joke current when I was in high school.

Question: Who put the last bullet in Mussolini?

Answer: Twelve Italian sharpshooters!

Yeah, I know Mussolini was hanged. So they all missed!

In the US, Medicare reimburses on diagnosis related group basis. There are 400 plus DRG’s that have a specific payment amount attached to each. Complications can change a diagnosis grouping. I doubt Medicare has yet to establish as specific DRG for the Chinese Virus, but it is likely to be paid at a higher rate. Most insurance payors reimburse on the Medicare model.

Well maybe Bloomberg News can get the Chi-Coms, and the Iranians to cough up their actual infected, and death numbers.

I think the Italian numbers are accurate. They are among the worst reported
