The Holyoke Soldiers Home superintendent has been placed on paid administrative leave after at least five and possibly as many as 11 veterans living there have died of COVID-19. An additional 25 residents are believed to have contracted the coronavirus.

Yikes. My mom is in a nursing home right down the street from this place.
If you read the article, it sounds as though the facility was doing everything required bother by common sense and regs.
Why has the admin been placed on paid leave...?
Unless there were gross violations that are about to be uncovered?

I’d be curious to know how many virus hospitalisations were actually people who were already in the hospital, or nursing home and were infected there.
It ran wild through a nursing home in Washington state early on and had half the deaths for the entire US. Of course, it has spread considerably.
I dont know that specific answer.
However I do know that there are no outpatient services there and turnover is very, very low. This is a state run facility for vetsnot a VA affiliated facility.
My MIL is in the same one (bottom of the hill to the left. Another big one to the right.
For locals, the Administrator is the son of a well known Springfield City Councilor whos husband was the head of vet affairs in the city for years.
I would be shocked to learn that the Administrator was a certified Hospital Administrator (as you would find in a community hospital.)
They got him out of there to protect him.
Let’s hope this virus thing passes quickly.
