And not that anyone needs to believe, but I think this chart puts into better context of what I’m trying to say. As diseases go, this is my yardstick for “existential threats.”

Covid-19 hardly registers. Admittedly, it is new. But we know so much more about how to contain, treat, and cure diseases than our ancestors did.

“ I think we need to get the engine going again, soon, to make the recovery in all areas faster and more effective.”

That would be optimum, but it is probably impossible. 95% - at the least - of the public would disagree...vehemently. Once an effective treatment is developed and the fear is reduced...then it becomes possible. The fear is too great and voices against that fear will remain unheard and unconsidered..

If Trump and the Republicans tried that prior to the overwhelming fear being overcome by events...they would lose every single election in November, they’d become the Whigs overnight. Even Joe Biden would win 50 states. You cannot govern against the overwhelming will of the people on a matter this critically important.

Wow. 95%? Any other numbers you want to pull out of thin air?

Hey, stay under the sheets if you want. Take your friends with you. I’m done with stay-in-place. I’m ready to go back to work. I promise not to get within six feet of you.

Go ahead and try to implement your opinions, so how far it takes you. The dumbass Massie couldn’t even get a second on his motion. That should be your first clue.

You don’t want a government responsive to the will of the people, you want a government dictated by your own tiny faction.

Good luck with that.

Well Trump is not perfect, we all knew that from the beginning, and he does have a temper

Though I would really like Congress to introduce follow-on legislation stripping the extraneous hitch-hiking parasite measures out of this bill.

I leave my house to associate with people every day. Family, friends, grocery stores, gas stations, drugstores, takeout places, even coffee from Starbucks. Other people around me do, too. I’m free to spend money. I even get money. I’m not free to go to my place of work to efficiently and more effectively make it.

This is how I know it’s a joke.

No one voted to quarantine in place. We were told. It’s leadership for awhile, but not for a long while.

I sure hope I am wrong. Bad on the one side, worse on the other, and an exceedingly slippery path forward. To think that on New Years Eve, the future looked pretty good...

I agree...This thing is far worse than worrying about a voice vote/recorded vote...

I'm sure we aren't borrowing those billions from any other Countries...Apparently Fort Knox is working overtime printing it up, giving it to the FED who in turn will lend it to us...Which when this money runs out they will have to print more and more, until money won't any longer buy anything...Dire straights ahead...I still don't know if the entire Planet is this unlucky, or someone had an ingenious plan...

I suspect the Democrats are going to start calling for demonstrations knowing they will not be peaceful...The Democrats DO NOT want the United States of America to be a self fulfilling sovereign Nation...

I always thought it would be a nuclear operation that would take down our Country but now we can see it is fear that will do it...The most prosperous and productive Nation on the Planet and the people are now afraid to leave home and go to work to even feed ourselves...

On 1) you are dead wrong...I DO NOT believe the threat of the virus requires the destruction of the economy. But I know the public reaction requires it, and it is ridiculous to attempt to go against the public consensus that the virus must addressed at all costs. It is as wise to do that as it is to stand on a beach and command the tidal wave to go back to the ocean.

And on 2), once you understand that you cannot stand against the tidal wave, you must take what action you can, seek the high ground, in order to come out on the other side with as much intact as you can.

The Democrats and fake news and now many Republicans will fight it all the way...

They need to random test like they are taking a poll to see how many in the random groups have the virus...Those who have the virus with no symptoms and those with mild symptoms don't get counted in the overall picture...The death rate is probably far lower than they will admit...Right now it's like contacting only registered Democrats to see whether they will vote Democrat or Republican in the next election...

After a couple of weeks people need to start going back to work...If they refuse, replace them...A certain amount of people die of pneumonia brought on by the flu every year...No one shuts businesses down over the flu virus...Like with the flu, we need to take our chances...It it's going to kill you if you go to work, it's eventually going to get into your quarantined home...

Re-read my post 141.   It was talking about "what is", not just a "what if".   "What is" is this: all those commie demoncraps you moaned about (including the following list of commie demoncraps) actually supported that porky piece of crap, and actually voted for it.   So, you actually supported what these commie-demoncraps also supported.

Commie Demoncrap Adam Schiff supported and voted for that porky piece of crap.

Commie Demoncrap Nancy Pelosi supported and voted for that porky piece of crap.

Commie Demoncrap Bernie Sanders supported and voted for that porky piece of crap.

Commie Demoncrap Chuck Schumer supported and voted for that porky piece of crap.

Commie Demoncrap Cory Booker supported and voted for that porky piece of crap.

The Senate publicly listed how each senator individually voted for that porky piece of crap here, but Nancy Pelosi dictated that the votes of the members of the House of Representatives would be secret, and remain totally hidden from the American people, and Trump and most of the rest of those republicans meekly went along with Pelosi's dictatorial demand, so we don't know for sure how the rest of those commie demoncraps and rinos voted, thanks to Pelosi and her friends.

Massie's efforts were to get a public recording of each vote in Congress for that monstrous bill, which would be good for all Americans, not just Massie.   (And Massie's actions here are not in the least bit like McCain's betrayal, where McCain's vote had a direct nullifying effect on the outcome of the efforts to repeal that stinking "Obamacare".   And McCain was pushing for something bad, while Massie was pushing for something good, so there is no real equivalence here.)

Do you prefer to have Congress follow the Constitution, or ignore it, when it "gets in the way" of something the sleazy, slimy politicians want?

Do you prefer that Americans be kept ignorant and in the dark about how their representatives voted on important bills (as is done in commie countries), or do you think it should be a matter of public record, how these politicians individually voted on important bills like this one?

I neither approve of nor celebrate this “stimulus” or anything else that is going on. I suspect every ten or twenty years we will find an excuse to pull one of these and it will get to the point that every time someone gets a hangnail it will require a couple of trillion.

However, at this point I just don’t see the people of this nation having the knowledge and character needed to correct our course. They are utterly convinced on all sides that we can do this indefinitely and trying to convince them otherwise is pointless. This virus stampede is but a symptom of a larger stampede of the unreasoning mob.

I get what you are saying, I just don’t see a way to save the people from their own bad judgment.

The framers were brilliant, they were well versed in the classics, they knew their Bible, hence they understood human nature.

They knew the nature of man as essentially fallen and they knew they were trying to construct a governing process to be governed by fallen men. So they contrived a brilliant system of limited government controlled by checks and balances, mixed with competing interest groups in various levels of government.

It is not the most efficient form of government. The Chinese government of chairman Mao was far more efficient, and succeeded in killing tens of millions of Chinese very efficiently. Why do we have civilian control of our military? Not because we believe that civilians are better generals than our generals, it is because they are under civil control.

So it is true as Churchill put it, democracy is the worst form of government apart from all the others. We must ask ourselves, do we want the tendency of the mob (whom our framers gave a voice but whom they also thoroughly distrusted) toward excess to be tolerated within limits or do we want the man on horseback, the Hitlers or the Stalins, the Napoleons and, yes, the Caesars to rule all so much more efficiently? At the end of the day an inefficient, divided government is the price we pay to stay free men. It is a cheap enough price.

So I entirely take your meaning when you say, "This virus stampede is but a symptom of a larger stampede of the unreasoning mob." Let's rest in the knowledge that the pendulum has always swung back so balanced, divided government will again prevail.
