My brother is a truck driver as is my cousin. I still dont think I want to be called a FRucker.
The Army wins that award but just by volume. When you come back you can have any assignment you want! They fail to mention the options will be White Sands, Toelle, Utah, or some even more remote hell hole. You have to laugh to keep from crying over the fact you fell for it.
The last 2 week paid vacation I had was in 1979, and I didn’t even get that because I didn’t work there long enough. I have been self-employed since 1980, and a paid vacation-—paid benefits— or other perks have not existed for me.
However, I controlled the hours I wanted to work, and I dropped the clients I got hinky about. I own all my property & vehicles. Only owe credit cards. Never made more than $64,000 a year in gross earnings.
My son is a trucker for a lumberyard. His state foes shelter in place tomorrow, probably rendering him unemployed.
I told him to tell his boss that if a call goes out that drivers are needed anywhere to keep him in mind.
Hes only 20 and must remain in state. Dumb rule. He has two years experience and cant leave the state.
As to the 2nd point...you are allowed to PC to find a safe place to park. Just ensure you put a note in explaining why you are in PC with a load.
Trump has issued guidance to the governors after his conference call. I just got it today: the TRANSPORTATION industry is exempt from shelter in place directives from governors.
You are good. :-)
None of the immigrant populations that take up trucking are better than Americans. We start driving a lot earlier and our values are different. That is painting with a broad brush, I know.
Bump for the truckers
Great news!
Unless they can put AI enough into those rigs to think creatively when confronting obstructions, changes in the roads including contending with split second detours put up due to flooding or when connections to gps get interfered with, the public will never accept trucks without minders in them who can at least override manually if need be.
Butter face.
I was trucking yesterday, helping with a delivery.
On our return journey, the driver wanted to stop for a coffee at a Tim Hortons.
Cars were lined up at the drive-thru but our truck was too tall to fit.
I got out to order inside but there was a notice on the door that only the drive-thru was available.
As I was walking back to the truck a young lady in the drive-thru line called out asking what we wanted and that she would get it.
My co-worker wanted a small coffee, she said okay and she would meet us after picking it up.
While we were waiting I saw 3 separate people go to the entrance, ignore the notification, open the door and walk into the coffee shop.
The lady picked up the coffee, drove up and gave it to my fellow trucker.
We appreciated it and wanted to pay for the coffee but she would not hear of it and gave us a heartfelt thanks for the job we were doing.
It was a very kind gesture and greatly appreciated.
