Republicans sweep 3 special elections for Pa. House

State GOP chairman Lawrence Tabas said the elections show the strength of the Republican Party in Pennsylvania

(Harrisburg) — Republicans are claiming victory and Democrats conceding defeat in three special elections Tuesday to fill empty seats in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

All three seats had been held by Republicans who vacated them after winning elections to county offices last November, and Tuesday’s election maintains the 110-93 Republican majority in the state House.

Eric Davanzo won in a Republican-leaning district in Westmoreland County and Tim Bonner won in a Republican-leaning district based in Mercer County, while K.C. Tomlinson won in a district in politically divided Bucks County.

Democrats had criticized the decision by House Speaker Mike Turzai, R-Allegheny, to hold the special elections apart from the April 28 primary, and then they criticized his decision not to postpone the special elections after Gov. Tom Wolf ordered a shutdown of non-essential government services to help stop the spread of the coronavirus.

House Democratic Leader Frank Dermody, D-Allegheny, called the elections a “disgraceful power grab” by Republicans and Turzai, and said the results don’t reflect fair elections.

It’s better than losing, but the 2018 GOP incumbent won 56.5% vs the newbie (R)’s 53.4%:

“...House Democratic Leader Frank Dermody, D-Allegheny, called the elections a “disgraceful power grab” by Republicans...”

But yet, “House Democratic Leader Frank Dermody, D-Allegheny”... sees NO “disgraceful power grab” by Governor Wolf jumping on the Corona-Corona-Corona bandwagon with his “executive authority”.

Just another hypocritical Dem POS.

Our beloved Nazional Socialist governor could have taken one more draconian executive action and postponed the elections at least until April (to coincide with the primary).

But he and his party didn’t want to because they hoped/figured they’d win at least 1 of the 3 elections and could claim “momentum!” and “referendum against Trump!”, “blue wave coming in November!” and all that bullshit.

They gambled, they lost as expected, and now they run crying to their sympathetic media scumbags.

This one was critical. It's holding the line in suburban Philadelphia.

I think the Democrat voters are too busy stocking up and hoarding toilet rolls and hunkering down in their home bunkers to go and vote. They've been watching too much CNN and MSDNC. LOL!

Yeah..a free and fair democratically held elections is indeed a “power grab by Republicans” in the bizarro world that the deranged Democrats are living in.

Republicans maintaining three county seats they already had in a properly conducted election is a “disgraceful power grab”, said House Democratic Leader, Hyperbole Pearlclutch.

My district is next to 58 that Davanzo won, so I didn't get to vote in that election, but my guy Dunbar is very conservative and he will hold his seat very easily.

PA is becoming more red and I am encouraged about Trump in PA really because of fracking and the working men and women in PA.

The union bosses are for the demonRATs, BUT the workers KNOW the truth.

Amazing that both leaders are from Allegheny. Is that true, or is it a mistake?

Note that from now until the end of time if the Republican wins the Democrat response will be “it was not a fair election”.

And yet the Pennsylvania Supreme Court redistricting in favor of the
Democrats was justice...what a clown.

Are you a Bucks County native? Is the area trending more Republican?

That’s usually the way it works. Incumbents have huge advantage. So for “newbie” to garner just 3 points below is good sign.

So far not a word about these elections on the local Pittsburgh news. Nada. The blonde bimbo desk anchor did say Joe Biden is going full speed ahead in his campaign!

No I am not. Was responding from a previous post where redistricting (led by the rats) did not affect the outcome
