I expect to see the House holding congressional hearings next week as to why there is a shortage of TP, and blaming the manufacturers for not making enough to meet the hysteria, I mean the demands of the American people!

“By the time our normal supply runs out people will have come to their senses.”

I wouldn’t count on that.

Yeah, I know.

I’m frustrated.

Hope Trump does as he always has, be rational.

He’s late to the press conference.

You don’t think..............................corona..................no, can’t be.

Hehe

Since it’s flu season and the corona virus has flu-like symptoms, is there also panic buying for Kleenex or Puffs? I never hear about panic buying for cold medicine. If everyone is going to get this virus, I would think we’d want that instead of toilet paper. Gatorade, tissues, cough medicine.

Do you need it? How much do you need to survive 21 days? 20 rolls? 10 rolls?

Apart from the currently active roll, I have four left. I generally go through one roll every week to 10 days.roll

I live alone. Normally, I wouldn't even think of buying rolls until I am down to my last one. But now - not actually because of the coronavirus, but because of the insane panic buying - I will be buying at least two 6-roll packages. That is, as soon as there are any left to buy on the store shelves.

Thereby, I will be contributing to the panic. I get that. It's stupid. But who the Hell knows what this panic will create in terms of totally irrational shortages of essential products?

Well, not really. The eco bastards have managed to get about 2/3rds of the paper manufacturing shut down in this country these past years. Ask anyone from Maine about that. Hell, ask anyone from the Upper Midwest.

It was all about sulfur dioxide and PCBs they claim the mills were emitting. The amount emitted was actually equal to about one second in 6 thousand years.

And guess where they did the tests? Right smack at the stacks and the outflow from the plants. The result is that there was NO PLANS to rebuild, build new plants in the future since the late 1980s to early 1990s in the USA.

Mother effers..

China is the number one producer of paper now. China is the number one destroyer of the forest eco systems. Brazil second. Matter of fact, USA companies have gone to Brazil to replant forests to re-establish that eco system.

The USA and Euro nations are the number one areas of responsible industrial forest management. We grow forests here.

They are apparently having issues with supplies of OTC cold/flu meds. The local Kroger has signs up with limitations on how much you can buy per person.

There is a demand problem for toilet paper, not a supply problem. There will come a point when all the nitwits will realize there isn’t a shortage. Once they do the pendulum will swing back and there will be pallets of toilet paper gathering dust.

If I keep more than that in the house, the cat inevitably gets into it and then there’s shredded toilet paper everywhere. :P

You know that you can make TP at home? All you need is a blender and a fine door screen and a pan to fit that door screen in.

Take the blender, and put the trash paper in there-remove all the plastic, etc, first, and run that blender to grind and mix that paper up-with water in there. Then, with the pan nearly full of water and the screen on the bottom, you pour the contents in there, stir it up to distribute the ground up pulp and lift the screen up. Now you can roll it on the screen with a roller-a glass or something to press it the way you want-that gets the water out. Let it dry out and you got paper. Takes a little trial and error.

Thanks for the info. I only hear about panic buying on TP, bottled water (as if our faucets are going to stop working), and hand sanitizer. I have not been part of the stockpiling, so I do not know what’s going on with other purchases.

That used to be merely an annoyance. Not anymore...

Just from post 8 and post 38 -This is turning into an awesome thread! 👍😂

Courtesy of Catturd on Twitt:

"Do all these people buying 2,000 rolls of toilet paper think you breathe out your butt or something?"

As for people panic buying, I'm not seeing panic, more like people anticipating a problem and trying to stock up (similar to what happens during hurricane preparations in some states..) Just my 2 cents.

We’re not using any more toilet paper than any other time, so that is totally fear-hoarding. The only reason people are buying more of it is because they see others doing so and fear they won’t be able to get it in the future. But that’s wrong because the shelves will be restocked and then they’ll wonder why they have a year’s supply of TP in their closet.

Other items such as hand-sanitizer are different because demand has gone through the ceiling. So there will be temporary shortages until production is ramped up. After the virus is under control it will be ramped back down to normal levels.

“One day people will look back on this, go into their closet, see 10 tons of TP and say “What the hell was I thinking””

LOL. I did exactly that, about 6 months ago, long before the coronavirus news broke. Stopped buying TP and resolved to use existing supply.
Bingo, here we are and we’re almost OUT at my house, and store shelves are empty!
Good thing we also have a stockpile of washcloths and bleach for washing them.
Those cheap little bidets you can DIY install are probably selling out...a spray bottle of water works as a handheld bidet, too.

The local Cub Foods supermarket in Anoka County (MN) was stacking pallets of TP last night, blocking the aisles. My wife took a pic.

Notice how there's nobody there. She didn't see anyone buying.
