“The National Weather Service calls this lake effect snow band a “monster,”

Yes. It must be really bad up there. We even had a few flakes here in northern Virginia this morning. I’m surprised the locals didn’t start panic buying of milk, bread, and toilet paper, and closing schools and The Government, as is their wont, at the sight of any snow at all.

I live in Rome, NY, and we only got a little, and that was yesterday. Nothing today so far. It’s all north of us.

I grew up in the snow belt region of NY State. Didn’t see a school bus for three days one time there was such a snow storm. And we didn’t have radar maps and such to tell us it was coming. We survived.

"So far this winter we haven’t gotten 1/4 inch of snow in South Jersey."

I'm an hour east of Syracuse. We had almost a foot of snow two weeks ago, and there were no alerts on the TV about it. When they do show the alerts we rarely get anything.

Big deal... 28” is nothing. I grew up there and 4-5 feet of lake effect snow is not unusual. In a day or two it settles into 10-12 inches.

We once had 6 feet over 2 days. That’s when you have to shovel the roof.

Probably the tug hill plateau

They don’t even call it lake effect on the hill till you get 3 ft. You should see when they get 10 ft+ on the hill.

I spent two years at Oswego State. We got 57 inches of snow one Thursday Night. Best Party Friday ever. We got everyone shoveled out and had a blast in the snow, the Town still had snowdrifts in the intersections in May.

... I got snowed off the The New York State Thruway
I live in Rochester so I'm well aware of lake effect snow.
Both my sons went to college at Fredonia (west of Buffalo) and many times I'd be on the Thruway near Buffalo - in sunny weather - and up ahead I'd see a white wall of snow approaching.
Unbelievable and terrifying ...
