Iowa Democratic Party to recount caucus results from 23 precincts (18 days later)

The Iowa Democratic Party (IDP) announced Friday it will recount the caucus results of 23 precincts after the presidential campaigns of Bernie Sanders and Pete Buttigieg raised concerns over the tallies.

The move came after Sen. Sanders (I-Vt.) and Buttigieg, the former mayor of South Bend, Ind., requested recounts of 10 precincts and 54 precincts, respectively. The IDP said it will review the results from all 10 of Sanders’ precincts and 14 of Buttigieg’s precincts, for a total of 23 precincts after an overlap.

The IDP said the recount, which will be conducted by appointed recount administrators under the supervision and direction of the IDP Recanvass/Recount Committee, will start Tuesday and is expected to last two days.

The recount will follow a recanvass of specific precincts that showed Sanders and Buttigieg within thousandths of a percentage point of one another in the state delegate equivalent count, the traditional metric by which a winner is declared in the state.

Buttigieg holds a narrow lead in that count but, due to caucus rules, leads Sanders by two delegates to the Democratic National Convention. Current tallies show Sanders won the most votes in the contest, and both contenders have declared victory in the state.

The Iowa caucuses were first thrust into chaos earlier this month after reporting inconsistencies and technical issues with a new app delayed the final results for several days and sparked widespread confusion as to who the victor was in the race. Troy Price, the chairman of the state Democratic Party, resigned last week in response to the fiasco.

The confirmation of the recount comes just one day before the Nevada caucuses, where Sanders is anticipated to perform well.

The caucuses were on Feb 3. It's almost 3 weeks and they are still counting. Let's have a national popular vote!

seriously?!!
I hope they finish counting by Nov 4 2020.
How many times is someone being paid to do the same job, over and over again?
Do dems not know how to count? bring out the abacus!
Why won’t pete & sand just accept the total?
Any extra votes found should be given to bloomberg. It’s the right thing to do.
Trump won!

It wasn’t simple incompetence. The DNC was not going to let Bernie win the first two contests..period.

They also want to use a pure national popular vote for president. They can’t even count the votes in Radar O’Reilly’s hometown.

This is beginning to sound more and more like 1968.

Among other highlights from that year were two delegations fighting to represent Mississippi and Alabama. The convention had to decide which delegation to seat.

The convention chose to seat the black delegation over the white one.

Then both states went third party (George Wallace) in the general election, and the Republican (Nixon) won the national election.

Democratic presidential candidates lost those states in eleven of the next twelve presidential elections. (Jimmy Carter was the one exception.)

1) Bloomberg actually won by write-in.

2) If this is how the Dems handle a small scale number of votes in a small state, how can they be trusted with the “democracy” replacement for the Electoral College, or with the single payer healthcare system with eyeglasses, walkers, psychological sessions, surgery, prescription drugs and all phases of doctor visits, tests and hospital stays? Costing trillions.

“Uh, we kinda like lost your records and confused you with another woman and so the doctor did elbow surgery instead of the knee replacement. The other woman likes your new knee a lot, though. Again, sorry. We’re giving you a $25 Amazon gift card to make it up to you.”

How many ballots did they find from ballot harvesting? Or in the trunk of someone’s car?
