Spokane, Wash. - The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has asked Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center to monitor and care for five individuals who have tested positive for the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Providence will work closely with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Washington State Department of Health (DOH) and Spokane Regional Health District (SRHD) to care for these patients while they are under isolation. The exact timeline for the patient transfer is not yet known, but it is expected to occur within the next 1-2 days.
Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center was selected because of its secured airborne infection isolation rooms, a specialized unit within the hospital. Providence is one of 10 hospitals in the country with this specialized treatment center. Regular hospital operations will not be impacted.
Dr. Bob Lutz, Spokane County Health Officer with SRHD, explained the process of transporting patients with infectious diseases has been well practiced between local partner agencies.
“We are coordinating with local partners to safely transport these patients to Sacred Heart,” Lutz said. “This is all being done following our jointly developed infectious disease protocols that we train and prepare for. The risk to the public from this novel coronavirus remains low.”

Not sure...If it was previous infections you would think the CDC would be requesting it? We will find out tomorrow.

Probably transfers from the 14 cases off of the cruise ship docked in Japan they were brought to military bases yesterday!!!

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

I just saw the total US count of 29 and wondered where the additional cases come from. So we’re still looking at basically zero human to human spread within our borders?
San Antonio is about to be the test vase as to how our containment protocols in hospitals work vs China given that China has over 1700 health care workers infected I pray we are better. The cdc still refuses to acknowledge this bug is airborne not droplets airborne as in submicron virus floating in every exhaled breath that only BL3 or higher full body suits will stop. Your eyes, ears, nose, mouth are all vulnerable. Full head gear and with positive pressure is the only safe way but we see N95 masks and splash shields it’s all over once it makes the breakout into a major hospital. 40% of Chinese admitted cases came from hospital to hospital patient transmission that’s what they admit too the number is likely far higher.

If the infected people stay a hospital and get care, what happens to the rest of the public that come down with Wuhan and can’t get into a hospital because there is no room?
