A Bernie Sanders win spells the end of America’s center-left, which is already a global trend

The Democratic Party could soon be taken over by a leftist who has never formally been a member (even if he signed a pledge to govern as a Democrat should he make it to the White House).

If it’s any consolation to Democrats, it’s a version of the same wrenching dislocation that has beset the center-left throughout the Western world.

One reason Bernie Sanders winning the Democratic nomination is entirely imaginable is that it wouldn’t be a freakish occurrence outside the experience of other advanced democracies. In fact, it would be entirely consistent with the travails of traditional center-left parties from France to Sweden.

The end of America’s Center Left?

No.

Congressional Republicans will rush in to fill the vacuum.

I do not fear a Trump vs. Sanders General Election (GE). However, what worries me is the high likelihood that, if nominated, Sanders’ health problems will basically guarantee that he will keel over during the GE. [The dude has already had a campaign heart attack, during the lowest-stress period of the primary run.] So, the realistic scenario that I see is Sanders keeling over at some point during the GE and the Dems being able to select a replacement candidate. This could be devastating given campaign finance contribution limits, depending; also, the sheer limitation of a reduced time-period could prevent the Trump Campaign from adequately informing voters of what a Trump opponent actually stands for. The following article may be useful in thinking about the possibilities. (Go to the last listed scenario, closer to the end.) https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/monkey-cage/wp/2016/09/14/what-happens-if-a-u-s-presidential-candidate-withdraws-or-dies-before-the-election-is-over/

You’re WORRIED about someone having to step in late in the game?

That’s like a boxer taking a fight on 6 weeks notice.

Worried about Trump being able to define and defend against the replacement?

I don’t see the issue.

If it happens post the link again then and then I will definitely be more interested :)

On the democrat side there is no center left. They are a bunch of hard leftists who have been able to campaign as “moderates” for years.

Bernie and AOC (just to name two) have finally forced the party to be much more honest about its policies, just to keep the openly socialists voting for them.

The democrats have simply lost that cloak they’d been hiding behind for decades, and they’re scared about that.

Wouldn’t put it past the Dems to “Breitbart” Bernie during the GE and have their “savior” Hitlery installed.

Imagine the drop in life expectancy for any democrat presidential candidate who gets stuck with Hillary as his VP.

Not until he gets the nominee. He must get the nominee. We get the house, more senate seats and of course presidency. That’s the best outcome. The house so we can stop these dumb investigations which are such a waste of time.

Why should I vote for a party who will give me
half a loaf of free bread
When there are parties that will
give me the whole thing
And throw in some cheese?

No. It’s like a boxer fighting 9 rounds and then having a completely fresh second opponent of equal or greater talent replace the original opponent.

Hmm...

I boxed in my 20s.

It’s actually like training for a particular fighter’s style and then getting one with a different style at the last minute.

If you’ve been sparring like you’re facing a dance around the ring guy and at the last minute he’s replaced with a brawler..that’s a lot of trouble.

The reason you are mistaken is because there are campaign finance contribution limits. (However, you point about different styles only emphasizes my point—the replacement will have already been focuses on Trump and will be fully armed with opposition research.)

Regardless, if Bernie can somehow miraculously survive until the GE, I very much hope he is the nominee because Trump would stomp him.
