CBP chief sees stagnant Mexican economy driving migrants to US

Acting Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Mark Morgan said Tuesday that he believes Mexico’s stagnant economy could be pushing migrants north to the United States in search of work.

The number of Mexicans apprehended on the southern border increased 10.6 percent in January from the previous month, to 16,116. Mexican nationals represented about 61 percent of apprehended migrants last month, and the majority were single adults.

The January figures mark a significant increase from the percentage of Mexican migrants last year. When border apprehensions hit a 13-year high in May, the majority of migrants were from Northern Triangle countries: Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador.

“Just like we had pull-push factors from the Northern Triangle countries, those same push-pull factors exist from Mexico, so they’re the same,” Morgan told reporters at a press conference.

“Not everyone trying to illegally enter the United States is good. Not everyone trying to enter the United States is vulnerable,” Morgan said. “In fact, there are some very dangerous people trying to enter this country every single day.”

Mexico has gold, silver, copper, iron, molybdenum, lead, zinc, manganese, arsenic and tellurium. They have great farmland, timber, water, Atlantic and Pacific ports, a border with the most prosperous nation on earth. They have a decent hard working workforce. They have world class tourism capability.

So why is Mexico always broke? I think it comes down to a long history of Euro style oligarchy and the top down version of Catholicism that reigns over them.

Their hardware is fine, they are running the wrong operating system.

What a conundrum. Crappy Mexican economy drives them here. They get here and hit a wall or get arrested and deported (in a perfect world).

Man, it is tough to be an illegal immigrant.

Mexico is a fundamentally corrupt oligarchy (about 100 elite families & cartels control the country) that exports its crime and poverty to us...

we need to tax all remittances now.

And the fact that Mexico sends them here is what keeps the ruling oligarchy in power. The people most likely to want to better themselves leave. The oligarchy and church much prefer this to having those people turn towards Mexico city and start asking some hard questions.

Oh, and there is a racial divide between Mexico’s leaders and it’s people that would make any racist proud.

Mexico had their Communist style Catholic purges and installed the state as their new religion 100 years ago. Now its just a big, statist kleptocracy, latin style.

“Corruption, profiteering, and bribery, 24/7.”

And those are merely the product of any society run by oligarchs. In fact, that is the direction America is headed in. Corruption, profiteering, and bribery, 24/7. Almost everyone in congress is a multimillionaire despite arriving broke. Most people couldn’t maintain residences in 2 cities, one being DC, for 174k a year. Much less build a fortune.

America embraced protestantism and cutting ties to Europe.
Mexico was forced into Catholicism and Euro-empire. Spain ran them, then the Austrian Hapsburgs. France left it’s mark too.

It’s stagnant because the government is corrupt and socialist and doesn’t believe in creating job opportunities. The USA has been a safety valve for Mexicans who come here to work, earn money, and support their families, which they cannot do back in Mexico. Our system works!

A stagnant Mexican economy drives Somalis, Hondurans, El Salvadorans, and Haitians to the United States.

Okay.

Talented, aggressive people will naturally want to be upwardly mobile.
...........
Your point about oligarchy is right, but to go further, the oligarchy system creates a ruling class that only circulates within itself, no new blood.
.............
The ruling class was originally fueled by the omnipotent Catholic church and its driver the European aristocracy and the Pope.
...............
The many Mexican revolutions were all eventually co-opted and corrupted and absorbed by the same ruling class.
.............
Education is the main upward path in America and that is very limited in Mexico.
..............
I recall in the late 80s that the small towns in the Yucatan would have mobile libraries that would park in some villages for a few days. I looked inside one and the books were new and unused , maybe a dozen people a day would go in.
...........
The Maya people didn’t speak Spanish or English. There was no point. I remember seeing the looks of hate when the priests came driving through town.
...........
Oppression by neglect.

What ever reason there is for illegal aliens, work or most likely, to game our system for each and every social program they can acquire (with assistance and encouragement, btw) they all send at least half of it “back home!”

The so-called “undocumented” aliens, “dreamers, etc” steal from our most vulnerable citizens, either directly through robbery, or other kinds but they always cost taxpayers and even the elderly living on Social Security millions of dollars through taking advantage of free educations, requiring more and crowded schools, even more schools that wouldn’t be necessary, were it not for illegal children or “anchor babies,” elderly illegals or the parents brought to the US by either illegals or even through the so-called “lottery!”

Medical and most importantly, our prison system supporting illegals for decades, even allowing “conjugal visits,” giving us more “anchor babies!”

"... Mark Morgan said Tuesday that he believes Mexico’s

When hasn't the Mexican economy been stagnant?
I don't believe a "stagnant" economy is pushing
Mexicans into the USA. This invasion has been planned
just as the invasion of Europe by Africans and Arab
muslims has been planned.

It's totalitarian globalists and Marxists who want white
Americans and Europeans dispossessed of the their land
and property and their identities destroyed or absorbed
in a formless blob of primitive Third World humanity.

Mexico is a monument to the failure of it’s governmental operating system and all that created it. They literally should have been one of the wealthiest nations on earth.

I think that is part of the reason the Mexican government and the American ruling class freaks out at the idea of stopping illegal immigration. Can you imagine if one day all that escaping pressure was directed right at Mexico city?

Narco mafia cartels who bribe politicians, government officials and employees with cash or a cut of the profits results in a stalled economy with abductions, human trafficking, gang/cartel violence, etc-it has been that way forever and not likely to change-but people who want to leave-for awhile or for good-can go apply for a green card/work permit-as long as you aren’t a criminal and can support yourself-there’s no reason or excuse for a law abiding Mexican citizen to come here illegally, period...

My ancestors left Mexico for the wilderness of Texas and NM to get away from the corrupt and greedy Spanish government before 1800-the only thing that is new since then is the mafia/cartels-and if a place hasn’t changed in several hundred years in spite of a few revolutions, then it isn’t likely to-old-style European corruption dies hard-like the EU...
