I thought he was Canadian. Oh well. He’s still a dick. Didn’t he wish some prominent conservative should die a horrible death?

A writer for the tonight show who passed for an intellectual in NY because other “intellectuals” went on his talk show. His strength, getting the other person talk.

LBJ’s tapes and corruption were suppressed for decades.

Not sure if JFK’s tapes were ever released.

Sometimes I’m guilty of not reading an article. But from all the disparaging remarks about Cavett, and the much appreciated comments from those who DID read it, it’s obvious most of you did not. I’m 68, and we used to watch Dick Cavett nearly every show. He was pretty snooty back then -— brilliant, and very much aware of it, but from the things I’ve read of him in the last few years, he’s mellowed, but still brilliant, at 83 years old; I still like him; especially since he’s not so snooty anymore. After his first wife of 40 years died, several years ago, he found love again, at age 73, and says he’s very happy. As an old granny myself, I say, good for him!

Of course we know that President Trump didn’t commit any crimes, but one thing that bothers me about the whole impeachment and defense was the way both sides threw Nixon under the bus every chance they got.

My point is that - yes, there was a break in, which is a crime. Nixon knew about it (at some point) and tried to cover it up, which is another crime... or is it?

Adam Schiff accused Trump of a coverup too - but luckily Trump had better lawyers, and the benefit of hindsight - lessons learned from Watergate.

Trump’s defense team argued (successfully) that what Schiff was calling a “coverup” was actually one coequal branch asserting its constitutional rights (Executive privilege) with regard to another coequal branch (Legislative). Assertion of constitutional rights cannot be construed as an impeachable offense without violating the separation of powers doctrine at the heart of the Constitution.

So, if Richard Nixon had better lawyers, or the benefit of hindsight, his so called “coverup” would have been seen for what it really was - the assertion of constitutional rights - which protect the President, or any defendant from being forced to offer evidence or testimony against himself.

Nobody accused Nixon of participating in the break in, or ordering it - what he was being impeached for was trying to cover it up once he found out about it. I wonder what would have happened if Nixon had had better council who understood that refusing to incriminate oneself is not a “coverup”, and therefore not impeachable.

Trump didn’t have any crimes. Nixon, participated in a cover-up of crimes he didn’t commit or authorize.

The FBI under Nixon ran ABSCAM and busted several Senators almost all Democrat for taking Bribes.

Trump asked Ukraine to look into corruption. That corruption included Biden, the Democrats election interference, and according to evidence obtained by Rudy, would implicate many Democrats.

I remember him. He was supposedly a more intellectual version of Carson. Basically his show ran in the early 1970s. This is the rundown of his time on tv. As you can see he was at his peak at the beginning and steadily declined. Carson was the king, Merv Griffin was next in line and Cavett brought up the rear so to speak. In those days generally I mostly went with Carson unless the others had a guest I was interested in.

Intermittently since 1968, Cavett has been host of his own talk show, in various formats and on various television and radio networks:

ABC (1968–1974)
CBS (1975)
PBS (1977–1982)
USA Network (1985–1986)
Olympia Broadcasting (syndicated radio show, 1985–1989)
ABC (1986–1987)
CNBC (1989–1996)
Turner Classic Movies (2006–2007)

Click bait title? Cavet did not actually say anything definitive on Trump's impeachment, other than it is different than Nixon's.

In the 70s, I and several friends bumped into Cavett hanging about on our college campus in New Orleans on a Saturday afternoon. He was in town for a PBS fundraiser the next day and was on the Tulane campus in order to hit on coeds. We chased him off by warning in a confiding manner that campus security would have no qualms about briefly arresting him for trespassing and then alerting a local TV news crew so they could film his release. That wasn’t entirely true, but we were convincing enough that Cavett quickly skedaddled.

Why Trump Got Away With His Crimes When Nixon Couldn’t?
Donald Trump did not commit any crimes but the democrats involved committed many crimes and it is ongoing.

Thank you for your post.

Now I can pass along some somewhat related notes from early this morning.

Devin Nunes in Wolverine Mode: This is Only The Beginning of Sunlight on The Mueller Team…

Devin Nunes appears with Lou Dobbs and breaks the news on national media the nomination of former DC Attorney Jessie Liu was withdrawn. Mr. Nunes went on to discuss the issues around the DOJ and Deep State resistance effort and then contrasts the sentencing recommendation for Roger Stone against the 30-day sentence for SSCI Security Director James Wolfe.

Additionally, Representative Nunes notes this is only the beginning of sunlight upon the dirty lawyers who organized within the Mueller probe…. and there will be much more to come.

Comment: There was a lot of conviction in Devin’s eyes in the interview. Things are happening.

Second prosecutor quits Roger Stone case after sentencing reversal........ Prosecutors recommend up to 9 years in prison to Roger Stone …………..

They call foreign election interference “a deadly adversary” even though Stone was never accused of working with the Russians or WikiLeaks. --- Chuck Ross Daily Caller

Federal codes are brutal. You can go to prison for 5 years for storing ‘Round Up’ incorrectly or mixing it wrongly. Read the label. (unknown FReeper)

It looks like the over-the-top sentencing recommendation for Roger Stone was a planned set-up by Aaron Zelinsky et al, to force AG Bill Barr to step-in and reduce the sentence; thereby giving fuel to those in media/lawfare who are accusing AG Barr of political influence. This reeks of Lawfare scheming.
