Exclusive: Justice Department anti-human trafficking grants prompt whistleblower complaint

A U.S. Justice Department anti-human trafficking grant program is facing internal complaints, after two nonprofits were denied funding in favor of two less established groups whose applications were not recommended by career DOJ officials.

The awarding of more than $1 million total to the two groups, Hookers for Jesus in Nevada and the Lincoln Tubman Foundation in South Carolina, has triggered a whistleblower complaint filed by the Justice Department’s employee union to the department’s Inspector General.

An internal department memo seen by Reuters shows that as of September 12, two long-established nonprofits – the Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Palm Beach and Chicanos Por La Causa of Phoenix – were originally on the list of recommended grant winners after receiving high marks from outside contractors hired to review applications. The annual grants help nonprofits and local governments aid human trafficking victims.

Chicanos Por La Causa has opposed the Trump administration’s immigration policies. The head of Catholic Charities in Palm Beach has participated in past Democratic National Committees as a delegate or standing committee member. Both groups said they filed strong applications and intended to continue competing for grants.

From the sounds of what’s in Trump’s budget that may be happening. It needs to happen faster, the availability of “Free Money” from the government stifles all other forms of financing and risk-taking.

Certainly those two. They’re nothing but covert Dem PACs. In fact, most Catholic things...and I say this as a Catholic - have become nothing but left wing, anti-freedom, anti-captalism, anti-population, anti-American pressure groups that spend their money on hating Trump and promoting LGBT(XYZ) stupidity,

Yup.
This is the proper function of philanthropists and the church, not of government.

Also, Annie Lobert is not gifted at money management. She needs to bring in a governing board to oversee her expenditures.

I don’t think she is an addict who has gone out of control (as happened to the late Shelley Luben) but she spends where she shouldn’t spend and lets other things go until fixing them is expensive.

“Hookers for Jesus”.

I glanced at the article. This is what stood out from all the rest. I’m still trying to wrap my mind around this group. Maybe I’ll get to the rest of the article.

Maybe not.

I think this is what it's really all about. "Career DOJ officials" are beginning to feel a little heat.

Whistleblower now means “far left a**hole who wants to agitate on the job.”

Man I notice a LOT of “i say this as a Catholic” statements before slamming Catholicism.

I’m of Italian descent. I’m Catholic. I’m white. I’m American. I’m conservative.

And I don’t apologize for any of them.

There’s enough hatred aimed at all of those groups, except the Italian one.

Lots of people hate one or more of the rest.

No need to help them along.

FTA...

“Hookers for Jesus, which received $530,190 over three years,
is run by a born-again Christian trafficking survivor who
has lobbied against decriminalizing prostitution, a policy
position aligning with many in the Republican Party.”

“Hookers for Jesus operates a safe house for female adult
trafficking victims...”

Hookers for Jesus. In Nevada. I wonder how many times a day they have to explain to a phone caller.....

“ No sir, we do not offer a discount if you are a born again Christian.“

IMHO, “career DOJ officials” = Deep State anti-American leftist progressives.

I trust not a single career DOJ employee.

From what I have read, "Catholic Charities" are neither significantly Catholic or Charitable.

They are, very reliably, partisan Leftist.
