Mitt Romney 'formally not invited' to CPAC after impeachment vote on witnesses

The chairman of CPAC announced that Utah Sen. Mitt Romney is "formally not invited" to the conservative group's annual conference this year.

Matt Schlapp, the head of the American Conservative Union, said Romney is not allowed at the event after the Utah Republican voted in favor of summoning witnesses in the Senate impeachment trial of President Trump. Romney was one of two Republicans who joined 47 Democrats in supporting the motion, which failed to pass on Friday.

"BREAKING: The 'extreme conservative' and Junior Senator from the great state of Utah, @SenatorRomney is formally NOT invited to #CPAC2020," Schlapp wrote in a tweet, which featured a photo of a troubled-looking Romney.

— Matt Schlapp (@mschlapp) January 31, 2020 It is unclear whether Romney was expecting to attend this year's CPAC next month.

Romney recently slammed Trump's critical statements about former national security adviser John Bolton, whom Democratic House impeachment managers have fought to have as a witness. Bolton announced earlier this month he would testify if subpoenaed, and excerpts of his unpublished book have leaked to the press in recent days containing allegations of Trump pressuring Ukraine to help collect information on his political rivals.

“He has made a career of trashing people by tweet,” Romney told the New York Times. “It is part of his shtick, and it’s working for him."

This CPAC news comes after Utah state Republican Rep. Tim Quinn introduced a bill that would allow voters to recall a sitting U.S. senator. Quinn, 56, claimed the bill was unrelated to Romney but said it was a “good mechanism in place to make any senator, current or future, a little more accountable to those who elected him...

Well at least he does it using his real name.

(Romney's so creepy.)

Mitt Romney is "formally not invited"

Meh... Milt does not care. He and his surrogates will lie through this issue as well.

How many times does Mitt have to betray Republican voters before they stop voting for him?

I agree.

But when it comes to Presidential nominations, there seems to be a “line of succession”, regardless of charisma.

One term Presidents have ALWAYS been given the nomination for a second term, unless they chose not to run (Lyndon Johnson).

Next in the “line of succession” is the VP of that party’s most recent administration. If there is no incumbent President running for re-election, the VP has ALWAYS won their party’s next nomination, unless they chose not to run (Dick Cheney), or had already been nominated, and had lost.

So strong is this line of succession, that in 1976, milquetoast Gerald Ford won the nomination over the charismatic Ronald Reagan.

If there is no incumbent President or past VP running, it’s pretty much a “free for all”, except lately there has been a disturbing tendency to want to nominate a past First Lady, or the child of a past President - almost like the bloodline in British royalty.

Pence may not be the most exciting candidate, but if he throws his name in the hat in 2024 and does NOT win the nomination, he will be the first VP in 70 years to be denied his “right of succession”.

Trump is transparent and not some kind of back stabbing brown noser. Trump prefers to deliver his counter punches in the public venue and not by some two faced public respect followed by privately trashing the same.

"Romney is eying a 2024 run for the white house"

The only person to pull off a defeat as nominee to a win in the past 100 years is Nixon. Bishop Dullard doesn't have a fraction of Nixon's cunning and pure political instinct.

Meanwhile, Popular-President's-VP-running-for-Popular-President's-Third-Term is also a tough row to hoe, and again in the past 100 years that has only been done once with Bush I (can't count Truman or LBJ as incumbents).

We are going to be up against it in 2024, but it will give me pleasure to back Pence to the hilt just to defeat Romney one more time.

"...Romney has been a speaker at CPAC before, including delivering an address in 2013, the year after he lost the presidential election to Democrat Barack Obama...."

I doubt he cares about CPAC anymore. I don't see him running for POTUS. He is bitter about Trump's success and his failure to win the presidency.

I think he's a Temple robot who does what he's told to do. He's a serious case of arrested development (a usually benign issue with many male cradle Mormons, but his is malignant).

But worst of all, he's Hillary Clinton in reverse drag. Preaches comity but talks shit when he thinks he's in private. Talks peace but is a gruesome neo-con chair-warrior just like Cankles. Even the Mormons I know and like and respect, think Bishop Dullard is a prick.

Hey DNC, You’re looking for a president candidate. Here he is!

Romney took jealousy about a mile too far. Gosh am I sorry I voted for this slug in ‘12. I promise it will NEVER happen again.

I doubt anything gets done against him in Utah, but he deserves to be turned out of office. People do see his weakness and treacherous nature.
