So, your premise is the US government (or any one of the thousands of other hackish conspiracy theories) built a virus and released it in China, a virus that mainly functions as a souped up influenza, that generally kills the elderly with other health impediments?

Please consider a more pragmatic reason for patenting a virus. This does not mean it was created, just patented. US policy is to patent viruses to prevent a single corporation from controlling vaccine development.
