It’s still early and things can change fast, but several new polls show Bernie Sanders surging in Iowa and New Hampshire as well as nationally, as Warren continues to stumble, Biden continues to unimpress, and Buttigieg continues to ignore the propeller beanie hat stuck to his head.
If Sanders sweeps Iowa and New Hampshire and surges in South Carolina and Nevada, he could become well nigh unstoppable.
The problem for Democrats is that taking down Bernie might well ensure they lose the election because lots of Bernie bros won’t vote for Joe Biden or the other powdered milk substitutes. We know a significant portion of Bernie voters in 2016 ended up voting for Trump in November. What might happen this year? A recent Emerson College poll found that only 53 percent of current Bernie voters said they would definitely support another Democratic nominee. The NY Times offers this typical anecdote from the campaign trail:
Elsewhere on the increasingly broad Democratic spectrum, Pete Doyle, who attended a Sanders rally in Manchester, N.H., last weekend, had a ready answer when asked about voting for Mr. Biden: “Never in a million years.” He said that if Mr. Biden won the nomination, he would either vote for a third-party nominee or sit out the general election.
Even worse news: the latest YouGov “generic ballot” poll for the House, which had showed a solid Democratic advantage, is now showing only a 1 point Democratic edge over Republicans. And Trump’s approval rating is near its highest level since he took office, along with new survey data showing the satisfaction with the state of the nation at its highest level in 15 years. The raw number—41 percent—may not seem like much to cheer about, but its the kind of number that gets presidents re-elected.

RUSH: Now, you know I have always believed that the Democrats have known that Trump was not gonna be convicted in an impeachment trial in the Senate.
So why do this? What’s the purpose? The worst thing that could happen is for Trump to be acquitted. I mean, here they’ve got this three-year investment into Trump being a traitor and a Russian spy, a Russian agent, whatever else they have said he is. With all of it, they don’t have an impeachable offense. They’ve got these two really pathetic articles of impeachment — and in order to keep the base of the Democrat Party energized and engaged, Pelosi had to go ahead and present the articles.
I think the Democrats have given up on beating Trump in November. Now, you might disagree, and you might think it’s too soon, and you might think, “No, they’ll never concede those kinds of things, Rush. You know them well enough to know that that’s not true.” I think… We’ve heard enough of them say, “If we don’t impeach Trump, he’s gonna be reelected.” Look, folks, they have their own internal polls. They know that things out there in America are rosier and better than they have been in many people’s lifetimes, that there is no reason under the sun to change horses here.
They know this. I believe they never thought they would actually be able to remove Trump from office via impeachment, either. I think as I’ve watched these things happen in the past, well, weeks and days, I think they obviously want to dirty Trump up. They want to put an asterisk next to his name. There’s some Clinton payback here as well. This is all about the 2020 campaign, but not for the presidency. They’re not gonna give up on it — I don’t want to be totally misunderstood — but they know that their odds there are very long.

Could Bernie win against Trump?
I don’t think so. However, the media believes they are a brainwashing tool. They believe they can achieve mental control over enough to form a majority of the electorate. They did a good job in the 2018 midterms, but the Repubs did a lousy job thanks to Paul Ryan and the fact that Trump was not running.
President Trump is so formidable that his arguments against socialism will be devastating in any debate setting.
I fully expect Sanders to refuse to debate...maybe ANY democrat will refuse to debate Trump.
Who will be their actual nominee? The establishment doesn’t want bernie, so my sense is that the NYT tipped the insider hand last week. It will probably be Klobuchar and a YOUNG anointed VP this time. It will be a bone to the progressives, so I’m going with a media star....Rachel Maddow???
Her District won’t be gerrymandered out until 2022.

The Democrats problem is ... in 2016 Trump won because people voted for him because they didn’t want (or like) Hillary.
Trump was an unknown as far as whether he was a conservative or a liberal “trying” to help Hillary get elected!
(Yes, that was a common talking point almost everywhere: “He’s only running to split the Republican candidates votes”)
This time the Democrats have to run against a President Trump who has proved his conservative credentials, created a booming economy ‘and’ has a much larger support of Christians and minorities!
And my guess is that any Democrat that runs against President Trump wouldn’t be ‘liked’ any more than Hillary was!?

Bernie is like Trump in that he is an outsider
The largest gang of clowns, deceivers, marxists, misfits, morons, socialists, scumbags, tyrants, etc., etc. to ever run for POTUS at one time in one party.
See clearly. 2020 Ready - Aim - Vote Asymmetric warfare...by ballot...and no law against ridicule towards them.
Sanders will win the nomination. The plan was to throw Biden under the bus *after* he got enough delegates to prevent a first ballot nomination of anybody else but before he could get enough to win the nomination himself thus allowing for a brokered convention. But they bungled the timing or the Republican defense disrupted their plan. Bernie now has enough momentum to capture the hard core leftie votes while the moderates scratch their heads and sit it out or shake them in disgust and vote for Trump instead.
Madcow will never hold an office that high. Too looney, too many gaffes, too stupid to cover for the other two problems.
Think about 2024 for a moment. Who do the dems have to run that is out there now? Biden, Bernie and Bloomberg will be in their 80's, Warren has already been exposed and the rest of the current candidates are god awful choices. AOC is clearly unelectable - she's a dope. There is nobody with any national visibility.
They control the government at all levels. Trump is surrounded by deep state operatives. The evil lizard man Soros is buying DA positions all over the country. Our law enforcement organizations depend upon the terrorist SPLC to determine who to target. Our State department is pouring third world savages into our unsuspecting communities in full cooperation with their progressive counterparts in the state governments.
And now they’ve had their ass handed to them in two hours by the President’s Dream Team.
