St. Louis chief prosecutor accuses city of racist efforts, citing Ku Klux Klan Act
CBS "News" ^ | January 14, 2020

Top prosecutors from across the country are expected to gather in St. Louis Tuesday to expose what they say are coordinated and racist efforts to block criminal justice reform. They're supporting the city's chief prosecutor, Kim Gardner, who filed an unprecedented federal lawsuit Monday night against her own city and its main police union.

Gardner claims she's being forced out. The union called the lawsuit "the last act of a desperate woman."

Gardner is the first African-American circuit attorney in St. Louis, elected two years after the protests and unrest in Ferguson. She and other black female prosecutors from seven states say their hands have been tied as they've tried to fix tensions between officers and communities of color.

"This is not about a single case or issue facing the city of St. Louis prosecutor. This is the fair administration of justice," Gardner told CBS News.

In the new lawsuit, Gardner alleges her civil rights were violated. The 32-page document cites the Ku Klux Klan Act, a rarely used law passed soon after the Civil War. It alleges the city and its police union attempted to "intimidate, silence, and sideline" her from bringing criminal justice reform, including an "independent team to investigate all police-involved shootings."

The complaint alleges the officer's association had "gone out of its way to support white officers accused of perpetrating acts of violence… against African-American citizens." It includes the case of Michael Brown, the black teenager who was shot and killed by white police officer Darren Wilson.

"I stand on the shoulders of the people who paved the way for me," Gardner said. "What if the other civil rights leaders decided it's too hard. Where would we be now? It's about standing up for what's right."

“Ku Klux Klan Act, a rarely used law passed soon after the Civil War.”

Something to do with Democrats back then, wasn’t it?

She sees herself as a civil rights leader?

Or just another scammer running an old scam.

In my neck of the woods, whenever a minority is forced out of a governmental position (school principal, police captain, etc.), there is usually a lawsuit claiming discrimination.

The scammer sues for big bucks, then settles for “an undisclosed sum”. Think of this as a severance pay of sorts.

When an over the top race card playing twit talks about improving relationships between cops and the minority community the way this one did (Michael Brown is your example of someone deserving sympathy, really?) all I hear them crowing for dead cops rather than dead criminals.

She’s the one who went after newly-elected Republican governor Greitens. Got his scalp too. Greitens is white, but not a cop who shot a black “teen”. So fixing race problems wasn’t her first priority in office. Going after Republicans was.

Her idea of justice is letting blacks get away with any crime they choose to commit.

Yeah, maybe the real solution is for blacks to stop committing so much crime. Just a thought...

https://molawyersmedia.com/2019/07/16/investigation-involving-st-louis-prosecutor-kimberly-gardner-is-ongoing-2/

The special prosecutor overseeing the investigation of how St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kimberly Gardner prosecuted last year’s criminal case against former Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens confirmed Thursday that the investigation is still ongoing, even though the grand jury has disbanded.
Special Prosecutor Gerard Carmody took the unusual step of putting out a statement clarifying that the grand jury disbanded Monday not because the investigation was complete, but because it reached its expiration and its term could not be extended.

The grand jury last month issued a seven-count indictment of William Tisaby, a former FBI agent hired by Gardner to investigate Greitens. The Republican governor was charged in February 2018 with felony invasion of privacy for allegedly taking an unauthorized, compromising cellphone photo of a woman during an extramarital affair in 2015.
The charge was eventually dropped but Greitens resigned in June 2018.
Tisaby, who also is black, was accused of lying during a deposition in the Greitens case and was indicted on perjury and evidence tampering.
The indictment of Tisaby raised concerns about whether Gardner was complicit in his alleged crimes, saying she failed to correct Tisaby’s inaccuracies or report them, and that she herself made incorrect statements to defense lawyers and a judge.

Prosecutor adds 22 St. Louis police officers to exclusion list
By: Jim Salter The Associated Press June 19, 2019

St. Louis’ top prosecutor has added 22 more names to a list of city police officers who are not allowed to bring cases to her office, after a national group accused the officers of posting racist and anti-Muslim comments on social media.
The 22 new names brings to 59 the total number of officers on Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner’s “exclusion list” that she first announced in August. Gardner has said the original list included officers with credibility concerns, but declined to elaborate.

Gardner said seven of the newly-added officers are permanently banned from presenting cases for warrants. The other 15 will be reviewed to consider conditions of reinstatement.

I can’t imagine why the St Louis police union has problems with this upright prosecutor. /s

Today there was a rally for her in STL by other “reform” prosecutors who feel a push back from law enforcement.

The new guy in SF also seems to be a piece of work. Instead of prosecuting, the default position seems to be “the police are lying about our upstanding citizens.” I don’t see this ending well.
