Trump’s ‘peace-through-strength’ philosophy on Iran is what America needs: Goodwin

For a few days, the band was back together. Following President Trump’s decision to target Qassem Soleimani, the media’s favorite go-to critics featured members of Barack Obama’s administration who crafted and sold the failed nuclear deal with Iran.

John Kerry, Susan Rice, Ben Rhodes, Wendy Sherman and Leon Panetta gave interviews or popped up on social media to defend their tenure and declare that Trump was a reckless fool for poking the mullahs’ nest.

Naturally, the Obama alums were in perfect sync with the dominant media narrative in the four days between the Soleimani strike and Iran’s feeble retaliation. They helped feed the breathless headlines and feverish speculation that the coming conflagration would rattle the world.

The coverage was peppered with a “we told you so” tone about Trump. The Washington press corps and the Obamaites echoed each other in warning that the president was a dangerous commander in chief, and finally they had the facts to prove it.

Except they didn’t. Instead, they all had egg on their faces for getting the big story wrong. Again.

By the time Trump made his restrained public statement Wednesday, the entire media script was flipped upside down. World War III was on hold because the Iranians blinked, and the president, seizing a potential opening, was inviting the mullahs to negotiate.

Some crazed warmonger he is.

Our wars in the Middle East are not endless. They are days or weeks at most. It is the nation building that is endless. When it comes to the Middle East, we may always win the war but we always lose the rebuilding.Winning hearts and minds at the cost of losing American limbs is too heavy a price to pay when it comes to that dysfunctional society. As many of them will hate us after the war as hated us before the war, no matter how much blood and treasure we throw away on nation building. So the simple solution is win the war, leave and the let them deal with their own rubble.Case in point is that the war that was our most senseless in that it was of absolutely no national security interest to us was the one that was the cheapest - Libya. Why? Because we did not spend one cent on nationbuilding.Just bombed and left. We got the same result in Libya, complete havoc in the aftermath, as we did in Iraq after a trillion dollars of nationbuilding.Few blame us in Libya while they kill each other but everyone blames us in Iraq.

My DH was very leery of Trump, but now, he watches the speeches and grins like crazy.

When people talk about the Iran deal, this column included, they forget to mention the numerous "side deals" that we only found out about after Obama signed the deal.

Even now, I think there are side-deal provisions we still haven't been told about.

He's certainly a breath of fresh air compared to Obama and Hitlery.

LOL! Actually the full saying is “Ya wanna play f**k, we’ll play f**k around. And you’ll lose!’’. Everyone who tries screwing with Trump ends up losing.

“....but if they’re scared of you, that’s good enough...”

Wish it were that easy. These animals give pain any way they can for a God that they are told rewards them for it. They will gladly give up their lives to kill and will lie, cheat, and steal to harm at every opportunity. They don’t fear anything as they are so uneducated and brainwashed they won’t be put off by even the loss of their lives or what it will do to their families. They have to care about being human to be frightened. They do not. They are muslim instead.

Machiavelli made clear that if forced to choose between being loved and being feared, Being feared is far more useful.

You are right when it comes to the masses...But the Mullahs and leaders use the masses for their own benefits (such as do our democrats) do understand that if you poke the bear, you get the claws...

“.... if you poke the bear, you get the claws...”

Please don’t misunderstand that I don’t agree with you as I do agree as it is the only thing they understand is death. Pain means nothing as they will give the ultimate for their goal of harm. But isn’t it unfortunate, and sad, we have to stop being people to handle animals and act at their level and not one of having the ability to reason over any other animals? I find it sad. Makes me feel old.
