Puerto Rico two quakes, 6.4 followed closely by a 5.6.

If a 6.4 doesn't qualify as breaking news, what does?

If a 6.4 doesn't qualify as breaking news, what does?

A 6.4, which follows so closely on the heels of the previous quake, is breaking news in my opinion.

Probably 90% of the general public believes the Richter scale is a liner correlation. Most Freepers know it is logarithmic.

Even if he’s OK, it may be a while before he can. That’s a LOT of shake!

Just had a 5.2 and a 4.5

I did see some concern yesterday that a major quake could trigger an undersea landslide into the Puerto Rico trench.

That could cause an east coast tsunami as bad as one from a La Palma land slide, but with less warning time.

Here! Thanks for checking.

Just got to my business after checking up on my family. No damage that I can see in my areas of the San Juan metropolitan area (Hato Rey and Santurce). No power on the entire island (what else is new?).

Most of the damage on the south side of the island (I’m on the north side).

SCARY!

I’m in PR. So far:

Power out island-wide. Power plants auto shut off. Will take anywhere from 5 hours to get the San Juan Metro Area up.

Many buildings collapsed on the south side of the island, including the Catholic church in the town of Guayanilla.

More homes built on stilts went down.

Landslides up in the mountains.

Evacuations along some coastal communities due to Tsunami warning (which was cancelled within minutes) caused some panic.

Radio stations are up. I have phone and internet in the office.

Governor told public employees to stay home.

School is out.

Having a strong aftershock right now!

I got that, you beat the USGS in reporting it by several minutes. Can’t beat the live, on-the-spot reportage!
