Thanks to Trump, the Forty-Year Appeasement of Iran Is Over
American Thinker.com ^ | January 6, 2020 | E. Jeffrey Ludwig

The assassination of Iranian general Qassem Soleimani is an unusual, possibly aberrant, event. The killing of this individual leader of a sovereign state may lead to all-out war between Iran and the U.S. — or, on the other hand, the assassination may bring an end to the cycle of Iranian violence countered by U.S. and world diplomatic flatulence and appeasement.

Assassinating the leaders of terrorist organizations — i.e., non-state actors, such as Osama bin Laden and Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi — did not lead to a greater war footing against the USA because, as terrorist organization leaders, not heads of state, they are automatically considered rogue, even by sovereign state leaders sympathetic to their goals. Al-Qaeda and ISIS, despite any claims to territorial governance, are non-state actors. Thus, despite ISIS's former control of land areas, ISIS was despised for its aggressions but was not considered a serious threat to the power of leaders of other Muslim-dominant states within the region. The Middle Eastern Muslim states that may, to a certain degree, be sympathetic to ISIS's dreams of a re-established caliphate such as existed for hundreds of years nevertheless did not intend to defer to the leader of ISIS as that caliph. Despite Islam's socio-political backwardness in today's world, the glories of Islam's earlier history loom large in the consciousness of most Islamics. ISIS did not appear to Islamics as the proper heir of that presumed glorious history.

Any of us who remember 1979 agree—it’s about damn time.

I still remember puking about 40 years ago when he had the towelheads over to Camp David and declared peace for everyone.

You can be sure that North Korea and China are watching this closely.

After seeing a terrorist vaporized like that, sensibly NK has scrapped their plans to launch an ICBM near the North American coast ...

amazing what a little guts will do ...

Hopefully this will trickle down clear to the public schools so disruptive students are disciplined instead of praised.

“Any of us who remember 1979 agree—it’s about damn time.”

Millennials can’t understand what the country went through then, but half of voting age people were around (and old enough) to remember.

I kind of doubt that the Democrats get as much mileage out of siding with Iran as they expect.

That’s true but Iran was even let off the hook by Reagan (after the Beirut barracks bombing in 1983). Some people say he was undermined by Casper Weinberger, but whatever the cause, Iran was never punished. They’ve gotten away with everything regardless of the administration in power and it has only emboldened them.

It was not an assassination.

1. Iran very clearly declared war on USA when the Ayatollah came to power. It’s an “inconvenient truth” that has been ignored.

2. While hostages were released-Iran Knew Reagan would act effectively and they needed time to get stronger.

3. More attacks such as 83 Marine Barracks and 96
Khobar Towers attacks-thanks to Iran.

4. Iran wages proxy wars throughout the world-against USA and others.

This guy was killed in country during the so called War on Terror—of which Iran just happens to be a sponsor of terror and that guy is a leader of terrorist attacks throughout the region.

BDT someone did something—Finally — no pale colors and wishy washy appeasements. POTUS wins in my book.

A more appropriate phrase you'll seldom find.

It goes back to the American Embassy Siege in Iran on November 4, 1979. That’s 40 years and a few weeks.

It was not an assassination.

I agree.

And neither was it an assassination unless the 723 leaders the previous resident vaporized from drone strikes were also notches in brocko's assassination gunbelt.
I have long called these assassinations, and, whenever asked by a brocko supporter if there was ANYTHING good I could say about their darling sissypants impostor, I'd say, "Yes, no one even comes close to his record as an assassin of muslim leaders!"

Isn’t this what the Left wants? I remember back in the 60s when the war protesters and entertainment cabal thought the leaders should fight it out instead of sending their armies of young men to fight their wars. An offshoot of “What if they threw a war and nobody came?”

If there is a bully on your block do you give him all your toys and cringe and cry before him ‘don’t hit me’!

Or do you kick his legs out from under him and show him you’ll not submit to his will.
