I believe you are quoting someone else there, so this isn’t picking fault with you.
Trump is not Congress’ lackey.
He is the Commander in Chief. Congress is not.
If we are declaring war on another nation, then yes Congress is the one to declare it, after consultation with the President, who will request if I understand correctly.
In situations like this with situations on the ground changing moment to moment, the President has to act promptly, to maximize the damage to enemy assets.
This Iranian General was responsible for between 25 and 33% of the U. S. troop deaths during the Iraq war. We have been aware of him for a long time. Everyone took a pass on taking him out, until now.
That 25-33% figure is a little vague. I read the estimates earlier, and don’t remember the exact figure mentioned. It was in that range. Honestly, I had thought the figure was probably higher, but then they should know better than me.
A lot of the IEDs came from Iran. Iran was training terrorists to send into Iraq.
I was angry that Iran was allowed to do that with impunity back then.
