Initial Analysis of Murders in White Settlement TX Church
YouTube ("Active Self Protection" Channel) ^ | 29 December 2019 | John Correia

Posted on 12/30/2019 12:06:33 PM PST by Sarcasm Factory

With apologies if this is a repeat thread, the embedded video at the linked YouTube post holds an excellent analysis by John Correia, founder of Active Self Protection, of how the shooting and armed response went down.

I tried first to link to the Reddit thread where I saw this video because viewing the video through Reddit apparently skips an annoying "sign in" step at YouTube, but Reddit appears to be unwelcome at Free Republic. Nor do I know how to embed the video from YouTube itself. You may need to sign into YouTube with a Google account. Sorry about that. -_-

I originally watched the uncensored event video, which is included in its entirety in this longer video, at a notorious website earlier today and noticed at that time how agonizingly slow the first defender seemed as he tried to draw his concealed pistol and bring to bear on the target. I was deeply saddened at his subsequent death from a shotgun blast from the active shooter and wished that he'd been faster on the draw. John Correia covers exactly that point along with the outstanding marksmanship of the fellow who brought down the shooter. He also talks about other points I'd noticed such as one particular armed responder who was regrettably and dangerously sloppy about his muzzle coverage as he approached the hot zone in the church.

Mr. Correia furthermore makes very good points about preparing in advance for possible mass casualties and coordination among members of the ad hoc security team over who contacts 911 and who is in charge. There's much food for thought here for responsible CCW carriers.

A second church-goer has since died at the hospital, or so several reports say.

The good shoot was done by a former FBI agent. Many of those old special agents are highly skilled. I was married by an ex-FBI Episcopalian priest.

treetopsandroofs :" I only counted one murder. "

The second murder occurred as the second person shot by the 'perp'
died en route, or at the hospital.

The head shot made by the security chief from across the sanctuary is actually pretty amazing, given the circumstances and the distance. He obviously does a lot of training.

Two innocent people actually ended up dying — one on site and one at or on the way to a hospital. So yes, there were two murders.

Like you, I do not count the killing of the perp to be murder — because it’s not. That was an animal who needed to be put down and was. Just wish the first guy who tried would have been a little faster on the draw. NOT blaming the victim. He actually bought time for the guard who did take down the scumbag, so he is also a hero in my opinion.

I, too, have watched the first video, the ASP commentary, plus a slow-speed video on BitChute that was zoomed in on the assailant. I’ve seen comments on muzzle discipline by the later responding members. The muzzle comments may be on the mark or they might be the result of the camera angle giving limited information/perspective.

The real issue, IMO, is the assailant was allowed access to the auditorium rather than being stopped when first encountered in his strange get-up/disguise in the foyer. There is much to be learned from this incident. The new requirement is constant vigilance or Condition Orange on Jeff Cooper’s scale.

I do not want to take away it being a great head shot.

Usually a head shot in this type of situation shows perfect vertical site alignment, but the front blade site site being high relative to alignment to the rear site.

Most everyone trains and teaches center mass targeting.

It was a great shot.

“The good shoot was done by a former FBI agent.”

I don’t think so.

Watched the video on Reddit. 6 armed church goers there.

But hearing what I thing was the deacon’s daughter screaming broke my heart.

Any idea how many illegal guns in the US?

You don’t? Well, good for you. It’s being reported that he was former FBI.

Fox news has updated their story. They say that they can’t confirm that, so they are walking that claim back.

It’s also been reported more often that he was a former sheriff’s deputy and owner of a firearms training firm, and that he was not a former FBI agent.

I teach our security team rings of defense. If you see someone that stands out start communicating to the team.

We want to be proactive and not reactive in our defense.

Ok. Cool. I will say this.. I have a close relative that is former FBI. He doesn’t tell people what he used to do and he has ZERO online presence. It would be very difficult to find out about his former job unless you were told directly by the FBI and they would be very unlikely to confirm. He was undercover for much of his time with the bureau in New Jersey and Miami ... reason to obfuscate is understandable given the obvious...

Well, in terms of stopping the killer before he even got in the church, the problem is how “welcoming” do you want to be.

Think of those poor people in the Charleston black church shooting where Dylann Roof was the shooter. They had to know something was wrong, when this strange white kid shows up in an all-black church of older people. My memory is that they actually spent time with him participating in a Bible study before he opened fire on them.

They had to know something was wrong, but they still spent time with him trying to reach him, probably knowing it might not turn out well. And they still welcomed him when the rational response would have been to immediately kick him out when he first showed up.

I know somewhere there is a YouTube video of Pastor John Piper being interviewed on this topic, and whether he would carry a gun to defend himself in such a circumstance. He said no, his reasoning being that if he were killed, he knows he is going to heaven, but if he were to shoot and kill the attacker, the attacker would then spend eternity in Hell, and he didn’t want that on his conscience. That response had made me think.
