They have an edit. I missed that part where the liberal woman says “who is going to pick our strawberrys”.

Maybe it’s changed since I owned a TV. Beyond humor, I’m absolutely appalled at what HBO (I get it on Cellcom) did to the Watchmen. It was a great comic book, and a great movie came out of it, but now it’s all about how every white guy in Tulsa belongs to the Klan and they’re planning to kill Dr. Manhattan to get super powers so they can kill more black people like they did in 1921. And they were all upset because the government paid the descendants of the ‘21 riot victims reparations, and whenever black people have money the white people want to massacre them. That’s why they want to hang onto their guns. Take them away, and they want superr powers to kill blacks with.

Yeah. Sure. They’re coming for David Chappelle and Kidrock. Beverly Hills is full of burning crosses. Watch out, star athletes. What crap. The writers took a great story and wiped their a$$es on it.

It seems most liberals have gone off the deep end.

Merry Christmas.

Great post.

Leftists in the media, Hollywood and Academia maintain the pretense of deep racial hatred and division for political advantage. They all reinforce each others’ narratives in a leftist echo chamber.

Reality is a different story though - celebrity panderers and would-be opinion leaders are only fooling themselves.

Liberal heads will explode in 2020 when President Trump wins 25% of the black vote.

They won’t learn from it though - they will come up with more lies to explain it away.

Flip Wilson was one of my favorites especially the Christopher Columbus bit. “I’m gonna discover America. I’m gonna fiiiiiiind Ray Charles!”

In those days, television was regularly dealing a mortal blow to the entire paradigm of racism. When I was four years old, I saw a black man for the very first time and thought there was something wrong with his face. I said “Ewww!” and my older sister smacked me and gave me a lecture. But then Bill Cosby, Sammy Davis Jr. and Louis Armstrong came into everyone’s living room on a regular basis, and there haven’t been many lynch mobs since. Bill Cosby, it turns out, is eminently lynchable, but nobody’s interested. Flip Wilson was the cherry on top of the chocolate sundae. He was so over-the-top funny that nobody could possibly hate him.

Of course, going to the newly integrated schools and getting beat up every other day did not enhance my opinion of black kids, but that’s a part of socialization that every kid goes through. Living in Crown Heights and Far Rockaway and throwing my kids under the bed when the shooting started was much worse.

So racism is by no means dead. But the idea that white people remain unreconstructed bigots is such utter bushido. Pushing that narrative is so cynical it might as well be criminal. Shame on HBO.

Brings back a lot of great memories. Back in the 60s I had an Admiral portable radio. I used to keep it on under my pillow listening to the Motown and Chess records music being played by the stations up north. Then I’d work the songs out on my cheap electric guitar. I fell in love with minor seventh chords like in the song Heatwave. I still have that Abmiral portable AM radio.

The fun being poked at white liberals was for not realizing up front that the US is racist and sexist enough to elect Trump.

The smart brothas were right because of their more accurate and cynical take on us deplorables.

The ultimate joke was on us.

The skit was two conservative black dudes laughing at liberals.

It might look that way early on, but not if you get to the very end.

One of the white liberals is astounded that while the country voted for Obama, they wouldn’t vote for Hillary, as if the only factor that mattered was that Obama was black and Hillary was female. The smart brotha points out that Obama was young and cool, whereas Hillary was old and very not cool, thereby putting the lie to the identity politics narrative.

The white liberals conclude from the election that “America is racist,” and that “this is the most shameful thing that America has ever done.” The first statement would mean that she herself was either racist, too, or not American, so was absurd even if everyone who voted for Trump did so because they were racists. The second statement is, of course, decidedly false. America, like every great nation, has done many shameful things mixed in with the great things, and some of them were much more shameful than voting for Trump could ever be, even if every narrative spun about Trump were true, which it is not.

The smart brothas’ take was cynical, but mainly about the liberals in the room, who are melting down because their snow-globe world just sprang a leak at last. The actual motivation of the deplorables is peripheral to the whole skit. They are an enigmatic force, maybe racist maybe not. But the smart brothas are aware that Hillary’s win was not a given. They smile knowingly at the flailing liberals’ naive epiphanies, but they don’t openly agree that “America is racist” just because Trump won. The liberal man says, “Kentucky can be explained, that’s where all the racists are,” and Chappelle smiles and says, “yup. They’re all in Kentucky and nowhere else,” which is a valid jab. Of course there are racists everywhere and not just in Kentucky nor is Kentucky especially racist (they didn’t even secede in 1861), but it doesn’t follow from that that America itself is intrinsically racist, and Chappelle managed to walk a tightrope and avoid that pitfall.

Again, the underlying basis is the idea that the white libs were out of touch by not realizing the nation is racist enough to vote in Trump. Sure, fun is poked at their out of toughness, but to get to the real dig/truth which is supposedly hiw racist we are. Classic propaganda that throws off some folks, but really is going for buy in on what they present as a proven given.

Except that the “smart brothas” do not endorse the idea that all of America is racist. That itself is something they smile knowingly about. There is a third possibility, that Americans have good and bad in them, and you can no more say that Kentucky is where all the racists are than you can say that America itself is racist, certainly not on the sole basis of for whom they voted, because they also voted for Obama. Granted, they voted for Obama for stupid reasons, but it wasn’t just to prove they weren’t racist, either. As Chappelle says, Obama was 40-years old, handsome and cool, where Hillary was seventy, not pretty, and not cool at all (did he also call her bitchy, or is that just me?). That statement has a great deal of truth in it, and throws off your interpretation, putting the lie to the whole identity-politics narrative that the out-of-touch liberals take as a given, which is the point of the skit. Chappelle, to his credit, grasps the complexity of the 2016 election. On election night, he publicly joked that America had elected its first internet troll. No talk of white supremacy this and that. He’s sophisticated enough not to buy into cheap narratives, nor sell them.

Yes, the the smart brothas do think we deplorables are irredeemably racist—they smile knowingly about it because they know we deplorables are racist enough to vote in Trump, while the clueless white libs are somehow surprised by that fact.

Don’t be distracted by the claim that black and young is hipper than an older white female. The underlying assumptions shown to be true are what counts in propaganda pieces like this.

A smile can have several interpretations. But a statement, Obama is young and hipper than Hillary, is limited to the parameters of the words. He’s giving a reason for why the deplorables voted for Obama but rejected Hillary. Obama did carry Iowa, Michigan and Pennsylvania. In fact, he won the popular vote in 2008. Trump will win it in 2020, barring the unforeseen, but did not win it in 2016. Facts are facts. Nowhere in the skit does Kidrock or Chappelle endorse the hypothesis that Trump voters are racist in words. The smiles were in reaction to the liberals, and as smiles can be, were enigmatic, neither an endorsement of the proposition that America is racist, nor a rejection of it, and I get the distinct impression that it was neither, just amusement at their Manhattan liberal friends’ naivete. Deplorables are not even mentioned. Just America as a whole. “This is the most shameful thing that America has ever done,” the brothas smile at each other again, knowing full well that voting for Trump is not even close to the most shameful thing that America ever did, and that their friends are nuts.

To be sure, America did its fair share of shameful things in past generations. Mostly to the Indians, but also a few to blacks as well, and debatably to second-generation Japanese, to the extent that America itself did any of them as a collective whole. Voting for Trump is not among them. The British, French and Russians have done much much worse. Even the Belgians. As for the Germans and Japanese, well, duh.

It’s easy to miss something that is absent. Facts are stubborn things, and narrative is often in disregard of facts.
