Mike Pence: Space Force will transform national security | Commentary
The Orlando Sentinel ^ | December 21, 2019 | Vice President Mike Pence

Time and again throughout our history, the armed forces of the United States have proven to be the greatest force for good in the history of the world. Every day, millions of heroes get up to stand their post and defend the American people from harm — whether by land, sea, or air.

Under the leadership of President Donald Trump, the strongest military in the world has grown stronger still. The president has signed into law the largest increase in the national defense since the days of Ronald Reagan, including the largest pay raise for our troops in more than 10 years.

As President Trump has said, “Our active-duty personnel are now the best-equipped, best-trained, and most technologically advanced fighting force in the history of the world.”

But even with our incredible military might, the United States must always remain vigilant against new threats to our security.

That includes threats posed by new technologies. Today our adversaries and rivals have developed capabilities like ground-based lasers, radio frequency jammers, hypersonic missiles, and anti-satellite missiles — weapons that increasingly enable them to do us harm from outer space.

As our NATO allies have acknowledged, space can now become a theater of war. And as technologies continue to advance, outer space will only become more critical to our national security.

But in the face of these new challenges, the United States is rising to meet them under the leadership of President Donald Trump.

Last June, President Trump became the first president in American history to publicly call for a Space Force as a sixth branch of our armed forces. As the President said, America must reclaim our “heritage as the world’s greatest space-faring nation…[O]ur destiny, beyond the Earth, is not only a matter of national identity, but a matter of national security.”

I can see anti-satellite missiles on ships, too. Mobile and the oceans are huge.

Land forces
Naval forces
Air Forces
Cyber Forces
Space Forces

Are all needed in modern warfare.

Asymmetrical, like 4D chess. The threat doesn’t know where the strike is coming from. And all provide needed inputs to intelligence, counter-intelligence, deception, and strike capabilities.

A space force is forward thinking as nextgen warfare is already here.

Capable armed forces are needed to fight the next war technically, & not apply “last war” technology and techniques.

It’s a reorganizing of all the already existing military space divisions under one roof to give it the focus it needs. What’s wrong with that?

You seem to be arguing about NASA.

Maybe even submarine launched. Which would be a new mission for ballistic subs.

Um, anyone who thinks we don’t already have a Space Force isn’t paying attention. President Trump is just making it public knowledge. See the F-117 Stealth Fighter and SR-71 programs for examples of how this works. What, anyone thinks we really paid $600 each for hammers and $10,000 each for toilet seat covers? Lol. It’s called black budgets. Duh.

I sincerely hope that the first Commanding General of the Space Force is General Buck Rogers!

Go to Google (or Duck, Duck, Go) and look up Operation BURNT FROST. A decade ago, a USN cruiser shot down an out-of-control satellite.

Bingo, Piytar.

Here are a few videos documenting the existence of the primary asset of our newly titled Space Force, which is capable of in-atmosphere or out-of-atmosphere operations.

As I said later, submarine launched anti-satellite missiles are a great use for ballistic subs.
