Back when manufacturing jobs were leaving the US the media used to say that the laid off workers should just "learn to code" and get new jobs in computers. They smugly declared that the lay offs were for the good. Getting rid of those smelly factories and those smelly blue collar people was progress.
They, of course ignore the fact that not every one can learn to code, not everyone wants to code and it takes time to learn. Not to mention that there is a limit to how many coding jobs there are.
So when reporters whine about how they are getting laid off they are mocked with "learn to code".
What goes around does indeed come around.
