California leadership gives full meaning to the thought “heads up their ...es .”

The marketplace takes care of itself.

If people don’t like the arrangements, they won’t participate.

There is no problem needing to be fixed.

These bozos will continue to vote Democrat even if they’re cooking the dog for dinner.

When I was growing up on a farm in Iowa, the standard rule concerning edible livestock was that any critter that has a name is safe from becoming Sunday dinner.

My sister and I had a pet turkey named "Tom" (how original...hey, we were kids) that we raised from a 'chick' and he was imprinted with the image of us being his mom.

He followed us around constantly like a spare shadow and always came out to meet us, getting off the school bus each afternoon. He'd come out and fan out his feathers and strut around a bit. It was his main, possibly only, talent.

In early November, word leaked out to us that he was going to be the main course for Thanksgiving dinner. The old rule had been over-ridden and Tom was about to be "axed" literally.

Come the day before Thanksgiving, we all dreaded what was about to happen and nobody would volunteer to be his executioner. Just thinking about it spread through the family to where we were all nearly in tears.

Happy ending:

We couldn't bear to kill Tom for dinner, so we ate the dog.

California lawmakers meant for the new law, Assembly Bill 5, to help Uber and Lyft drivers get more pay and benefits for working long hours.

What a crock. The whole appeal of the gig economy is you only work as much as you want to.

>>What a crock. The whole appeal of the gig economy is you only work as much as you want to.

I’ve have been a gig worker almost my entire career - by choice - many years I make more, sometimes much more, than my salaried people I worked with. Some years, less - even a lot less - like when I decided I want to stay home with the kids and raise animals for a while when they were young.

It’s always been my choice, period. Leave it to democrats to take away people’s choice - because they know better than me what I want. (Not in California and not affected by this law though).

Both for practical reasons and for mathematically verifiable moral reasons, authority and responsibility must be equal - else a balancing takes place as surely as current flows between points of unequal potential. To permit irresponsible authority is to sow disaster; to hold a man responsible for anything he does not control is to behave with blind idiocy. The unlimited democracies were unstable because their citizens were not responsible for the fashion in which they exerted their sovereign authority... other than through the tragic logic of history... No attempt was made to determine whether a voter was socially responsible to the extent of his literally unlimited authority. If he voted the impossible, the disastrous possible happened instead - and responsibility was then forced on him willy-nilly and destroyed both him and his foundationless temple.”
― Major Reid, History and Moral Philosophy instructor in Robert A. Heinlein's "Starship Troopers" (G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1959) (emphasis added).

The California legislature outlaws their form of employment, and they blame their employer for being "cold and heartless".

Democrats consistently promise fairness and prosperity through theft and cronyism.

They know that by creating or importing sufficient numbers of helpless idiots their promises will be believed.

Little by little the electorate is no longer comprised of workers and thinkers.

This is how they rule.

It was only a few weeks ago that VOX was singing the praises of that law. History has shown that most leftists do not change their minds as they have no sense of how logic works.

The large number of unemployed journalists, displaced for a variety of reasons mostly involving implementation of progressivism, bafflingly fail to see the tremendous opportunity which has opened to them:

Start a new news service.
There is an audience eager to pay for objective news. Current news outlets, which have betrayed these journalists by addressing what they wanted businesses to do, are little more than propaganda voices losing market share precipitously.
All these journalists have everything they need to build their media utopia: lots of experienced reporters, with lots of contacts, with whatever gear they need (i.e.: smartphones), with scalable services (i.e.: data cloud rental) available cheap, and - best of all - a mutual will to implement whatever progressive unionized business structure they see fit.

Alas, they lack two critical factors:
1. The will to actually start the business.
2. The will to actually provide objective news to an eager-to-pay audience.

Oh, I agree. But even giving them the benefit of the doubt, they are still as stupid as a bag of hammers.

However, you are correct: since they are socialists, they are in violation of several of the Ten Commandments:

They are liars; they steal that which isn’t theirs; they covet the property of others; and, ultimately, they murder when people oppose them in any meaningful way. EVIL to the core, no matter which stripe of socialist they are, from “democratic” socialist through outright Communist.
