At least EVs can derive power from a variety of sources.
Gasoline cars need...gasoline.
Agree but the manufacturers are moving away from hybrids and going all-electric. Hybrids are more expensive to make and they are lugging even more weight around than the battery-powered cars.
Exactly, these range figures are a joke. No traffic, sunny 73 degrees, 1:00 p.m. and constant 45 mph maybe you get range spec.
So you want all the world automanufacturers to agree on a standardized battery design and machinery to change-out those batteries? Not to mention, you’d have to find a way to distribute extra batteries so that the service station in Podunk, Minnesota has one when you pull-in 5 minutes before they close.
That level of standardization — while possible — would then become an obstacle to replacing that battery design when something better comes along.
that’s called central planning ... it has worked so well throughout history ... </sarc>
Didn’t know there was a “wok” niche market, stir frys must really be making a comeback ;-). The Volkswagen Group is a huge proponent of EV vehicles, Ford just launched their Mustang Mach-E, and Cadilac plans to be totally EV by 2030; although the rest of GM appears to be going hybrid.
It can’t be done.
The batteries are heated and cooled, and must be integrated into the frame in such a way that there is protection in the event of a crash.
Hello.... I think the idea of a tow truck, is to tow the vehicle to where it needs to be, I could be wrong though.
Tesla tried that. Wasn’t viable nor wanted. Trading your new $10,000 battery for one of unknown origin & condition doesn’t go over well.
I didnt bemoan the loss of VHS. But I did keep the player long after Blockbuster closed its doors. Ill keep my internal combustion moterized vahicles, motorcycles, thndercat, boat in a similar fashion.
They do have the highest % of EVs, they tax ICE vehicles at 200%.
My son has a BWM3i - with a ‘ranger extender’ a 650cc motorcycle engine hooked to a genset.
Works like a champ.
SpaceX is making a very sustainable profit for its services. Launches cost far less than they’re charging - which customers pay because that charge is far less than competitor’s charge.
Quite a few diesel-electric hybrid rollback tow trucks out there, not fully electric, but still.
Musk is a genius? Huh? Nikola Tesla, Yes. Thomas Edison, Yes. Elon.. uhhh..
Of course that works.
Do you want to blindly exchange the gas engine from your car for another one that someone you’ve never met left in an ‘exchange’ station?
Have I got an engine for you. LOL!
Many ICE engines are capable of Multi-Fuel use, which can be Gas, Diesel, E-85, coal dust, methane, propane, etc.
Electric runs ONLY on electricity, how the electricity is generated is pretty irrelevant, no matter how it was generated it’s going through the same transmission lines and slow charging process.
Electric cars will remain toys until slow discharge capacitors are perfected.
Which may never happen.
Agreed, but you said it much more nicely than I would have!
Then; instead of one battery pack for each vehicle; there would be multiples of them.
Consider the storage space. Right now our fuel is underground, hidden from sight.
Can you imagine the vast amount of storage area required for all of those recharging batteries at a gas; ahem; FUEL depot??
My local gas station has 8 pumps and in the morning those things are servicing a car about every 15 minutes or so.
