Great!

And yet another dumb question from me! :)

Is this a countrywide election for the equivalent of our congress and president?

thanks in advance.

If the pro-Brexit people win, will they be allowed to exit? Or will that require multiple new political steps and further elections until the people vote the way they are supposed to and stay in the EU? I mean, they can’t actually leave, right?

I just watched the first two announcements. Labor win both.

In the second, Labor got 16,000 and Conservatives 13,000. But two parties, Brexit and UKIP got enough votes that together they and Conservatives got way more than Labor.

Seems like they split the vote to give Labor a seat.

I stopped by twitter to see what is up in GB. Their liberals are crying and claiming all sorts of conspiracies. Just like our liberals, the very definition of traitorous POSs.

Yes. The entire House of Commons was being elected. Britain has a parliamentary system of government. Whatever party wins a majority of seats forms the next government (administration in US speak). The leader of that party become Prime Minister. Boris Johnson is on track for the biggest electoral landslide since the 1980’s. And Labour is facing what may be its worst defeat since before the war.

Wow.

So there’s no head to head presidential election equivalent? wow

Another dumb question. Doesn’t that mean that the parliament and the Prime Minister will always be on the same page politically, or at least most of the time?

In other words, the Prime Minister will have a majority supporting him in parliament?

thanks

If I’m not mistaken, it’s most like an election for Congress. In the US people run for President directly. But no one runs for UK Prime Minister directly.

The new Parliament will meet and vote for the Prime Minister.

Don’t forget that Brexit foreshadowed Trump’s stunning 2016 election. This is very good news for 2020.

In a word... yes. That’s exactly what it means. Of course he has to maintain the loyalty of his members, but if he gets an 86 seat majority he can pretty much do as he wishes.

“Our plan was too hard for the little people to understand”
“Brexit was easy , right in the gut.”

Samw crap over and over again from the Left.

Then again, we know better with the Rs in congress here :)

Even with the majority it was like pulling teeth to get what Trump wanted.

Maybe it’s different over there and they are more cohesive, the majority.

Each party already has named their leaders. Boris is the elected leader of the Conservative Party. Tomorrow HM the Queen will summon Mr. Johnson to the palace where she will invite him to form the next government. There may be some changes in the cabinet. That will be sorted out tomorrow.

The ‘coalition’ or the party/parties who have a clear majority elect from their ranks. Those not on the winning side don’t get to participate in picking the PM.

“It’s looking like a conservative landslide.”

But then there is your post. My concern was a split vote that did exactly what you described.
