If this were a civil suit the defendant would be granted summary judgement.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kangaroo_court

A kangaroo court is a court that ignores recognized standards of law or justice, and often carries little or no official standing ... The term may also apply to a court held by a legitimate judicial authority which intentionally disregards the court’s legal or ethical obligations. The defendants in such courts are often denied access to legal representation and in some cases, proper defense and the right of appeal.

They want to see abuse of power, look in the mirror.

This idea was sort of previewed by AG Barr’s speech to the Federalist Society a few weeks back. He talked about how the Congress had diminished the power of the Executive Branch. It’s as though they are setting themselves up to be the superior branch of government, even though they are to be co-equals.

You are this is about the Supreme Court. Justice Ruth Bader heath is not good, and most likely President Trump will be appointing her replacement.

I’m all for obstructing Congress. The less mischief they do, the better it is for our Republic.

this is a dangerous precedent to set...every President from here on in will be subject to this garbage. Only a matter of time until someone says “screw it, this all means nothing”....what if certain states refuse to participate in elections making getting to 270 impossible..then what??...

“touching off a rapid-fire sequence that could result in a momentous floor vote in a matter of days.”

Why the hurry? I can think of a couple of reasons

1. They have to vote for impeachment or the Rabid left wing of the party will meltdown. They pushed Nancy into this and she has no choice but to go forward. To back out now makes them look even more stupid than they already do.

2. They want to get this over quickly so people forget. They know they have no evidence and it’s a sham. The voters usually remember things starting in the summer, so this will be long forgotten by then. They hope!

3. RGB health is in question. If there’s any chance this works, then Trump’s successor they could say is not competent to appoint her replacement. Even if it doesn’t work, they can say Trump is impeached and therefore can’t appoint her replacement.

Lots of grasping at straws here. That works out well for us that straws have been banned where Nancy is from.

“abuse of power and obstruction of Congress”

Neither of which is a crime, so they’ve admitted they couldn’t find one and are just doing a little political theater.

Yes, you might say “obstruction of Congress” is a key part of the President’s job. That’s kind of one of the points of “separation of powers” and all that.

“He could expose everything the left has done. Maybe the left will face recalls when people understand the left was attempting a coup.”

We have a lot of good chances of this being exposed. Like you said, with a Senate trial. But now we also have Rudy’s investigation. Plus Barr and Durham have more to reveal. Don’t put the popcorn back in the pantry yet!

OMG! OMG! It's ANOTHER "Constitutional Crisis."

How many of those have we lived through? The histrionics of the Dems and their press collaborators is laughable. They act like a bunch of gossipy 13 year old girls.

I believe it only requires a majority of the electoral votes cast, not necessarily 270. If certain states refuse to participate in the 2020 election (I have no idea how that is even possible), then a simple majority of the remaining electoral votes would suffice to win.

I would appreciate any clarification on this from people in the know.

Yes, the only thing they could try to make an “investigation” qualify as is under: “or other infringement of personal or property rights”.

But... if an investigation is an infringement of personal rights, then the Democrats have been infringing Trump’s rights constantly since 2016!

Very well expressed, MNJohnnie. I’ve thought the same thing for quite a while. This is nothing more than Congress trying to assert supremacy over the Executive branch and use their completely made-up-out-of-whole-cloth bogus charges to influence the 2020 election in their favor.

If the Dems can claim “Obstruction of Congress,” then why can’t the President turn the tables and claim “Obstruction of the President of the United States”? What’s sauce for the goose...
